sick acting trukey hen

The bottom two pictures do look like maybe coccidiosis? Looks like a bit of blood there. I would advise worming your chickens and peas as well as the turkeys. You probably won't see worms from blackhead.

Sorry to hear about the dx and the losses, Tim. Fishzole is cheaper but, if you've got a `reasonable' vet/doc then you should be able to get a script for Flagyl (same Metronidazole) to keep on hand. Soil in areas where turks were primarily maintained can be somewhat `remediated' by scraping off top layer and replacing with several inches of sand (the better the drainage the lower the potential concentration of vectors). I think Valbazen is the widest spectrum wormer.

Definitely a situation in which the chook/turk separation is in order (chooks are USUALLY asymptomatic agents of transmission, however:

The State vet is aware of who/where you got the turks from, yes?

Sure wish you the best of fortune going forward,

John

True no worms from blackhead, but poop would be very loose and etc.

Valbazen I don't think works as good as safeguard and ivomec as a wormer.

I agree worm all you birds 3 times a year, earthworm are host to many too....and you can't keep them from eating them.

ok. the lady i got the turkey hens from was moving and couldnt take them with her. two is all she had. the coop at night is the only time the turkeys and chicks are confined together. otherwise they have acres and acres to roam on. all though the guinieas are the only ones that really travel. the coop is the only area i dont have grass. and my vet didnt asked me where they came from.

Just wormed my peas and Tom Turkey on Monday. Now I have the rest of the chickens and turkeys. Will have to do one at a time. I have a strange set up and I don't trust putting the meds in the water. My ducks and geese drink from that same water.

Thank you chickenzoo. The last time he had it was 14 months ago. We will see what happens in the next 14 months. I will bookmark this in my Medical Log Book and report back in a year if he gets it again.

There is Ivermectin pour-on (look at the thread about the sick pea) though I think I heard it's more effective to get it down their throat? I am not sure if safe-guard is ok for waterfowl, I would have to look that one up.

if i use safegaurd to de worm all my poultry, all long do i toss the eggs. and would it better to alternate between ivomec and safegaurd, chickens twic a year, and turkeys ever three months. before and after the laying season for the turkeys
