I have a game hen that is a couple years old that has a swollen wattle. It went from being pea sized one day to both wattles and the area around them being swollen the next day. She is acting fine and eating ok. I am wondering if I should drain this? She has scratched it and made sort of a scab on the bottom but it has failed to burst. Has anyone else had this problem?

there are several diseases that can cause this. Some are mild and some are pretty serious. Have you ever had your birds tested for disease by the NPIP?

No, I have never had any problems with any of my chickens. I haven't added any new chickens in over a year. I wondered if maybe she had scratched or poked it on something. None of the other chickens she is with have any problems.

It could be anything from an injury, insect bite to a respiratory infection draining into the wattle. If she is normal otherwise you can get a drawling salve and apply to the wattle area and see if it will pull out the infection. Could also put her on an antibiotic like penicillin....

I have six RIRs and only one has swollen wattles. She's been that way for a few days and it hasn't spread to others nor has she acted any different from her usual pushy self.

Also, since I'm adding more to them once they're big enough, we moved RIRs to new, bigger coop & run. Since the move, they haven't been laying as much. Especially worried about wattles though so any help is appreciated.

You might want to check for any ticks, since that could be a possible cause. Wattles can be swollen from coryza, fowl cholera, avian influenza, and frostbite. A tick bite may cause a discolored or bruised wattle along with the swelling.
