Alright guys. So my family is FINALLY giving into my idea of becoming more self-relient (especially after seeing this months electric bill!

), by making our own laundry soap, of course we have the garden thing going, plus me and my dad hunt...about to hang the clothes line back out. But we wanna do more than that. I was talking to mom about a milk goat or two, but she's skeptical about how goats milk tastes...anybody care to try and explain the taste difference between goats milk and rocket fuel injected store bought cows milk? Does it have to be processed? How does that work? And Southern28Chick -- what's the general soap-making process require? Anyone grow your own animals feed? If so, what is it and how do you do it? Anyone have recipe's for homemade dishwashing & laundry detergent? Anything else y'all wanna share? Thanks, dears!!
 
If you try to do it all at once, you'll likely burn out pretty quickly.

Soap: Find it on sale and buy a year's supply.

Growing animal feed: Again, you can't grow bulk grains as cheaply as you can buy them. Maybe grow greens or small patches of grains and let your girls forage in them as a supplement.

Goat's milk: If she didn't know what it was, she probably couldn't tell the difference.
 
HomeMade Powdered Laundry Detergent

Use ONLY 2 tsp per load! No need for fabric softner

2 cups borax
2 cups washing soda
1 bar grated Fels Naptha Soap
1 cup dry color safe bleach

Mix all together in an empty pail and use just two tsp per load. This is a real wallet saver
 
How big of a load are you washing??? That would save me oodles! Gonna have to give that a try and pick up a copy of that book!
 
Goats milk.............At first you will notice a difference due to the fact that it hasn't been pasturized and has all of the milk fat in it. It takes only a short time to get used to it.

If you are currently drinking skim or 2% there will be a big difference, however if you are drinking whole milk if isn't much of a change.

Goats milk will taste very similar to cow milk prior to processing.

Personally I miss goats milk. I haven't had any in 14 years. I raise Nubians for 6 years or so when I was growing up. They were alot of fun.

washing soda is in the laundry isle right by the borax in your local walmart
fels naptha bar soap is there as well. You grate it into the mix

In Canada we don't have fels napha so I use the sunlight bars that are also found in the laundry isle
