I am tempted to buy those brahmas, but as soon as I do Julie will get some in

wish I could get ahold of Cackle on the phone and find out when the earliest ship date would be.

their phone has been busy for the last half hour

I could go through Mt Healthy and get them May 3rd for a few dollars more

Ok, got ahold of Cackle - $52.50 April 20th Straight Run brahmas (25 of them)

Now that I have some coming - I can relax a little

I don't mind waiting if I know they'll be there (or here, rather) it's just setting the alarm to hurry into town to see if they came in, or if they've been grabbed up yet - nerve wracking - no thanks.

Hubby may raise an eyebrow, but I don't care, I want my Brahmas!!

I was just shown one sunday at a church friend of mine's house. He has two, they were full of green EE eggs. He told me with that kind turning the eggs is as simple as rolling the group around the pan with the palms of your hand. Not very scientific but he has no problems....then again he raises green egg Araucanas, cochlins and black ocelots.

My goodness Mojo you and your need for Brahma's... you can get a bit obsessive can't ya. Well... what kind of Brahma's did you order and from whom?

My Dark Bantam Brahmas were very sweet and I really enjoyed having them as my first set of chickens. Stupid brother's dog killed all the hens which had been loose in his yard for 3 days. (I had kept the roosters penned to keep them off the hens and the baby chicks).

I checked on my bator and have a second Dark Cornish to hatch with a bloody but. No yoke hanging out just a bloody egg shell and behind. I toweled it off as well and put it back. Both are easy to find in among the 20 odd fuzzy heads as they both are cheeping a bit distressingly. Everyone else seems to be fine.

The dark cornish are of varying darkness, and the red silkies are several colors. One appears to be near solid black, one a silver gray. It will be interesting to see them grow up and feather in.

I haven't checked on my broody hen yet today. Stupid tooth wouldn't let me sleep but on an off last night and I am just now getting up and getting around.

Looking out my front window I see a cow bird looking for nesting material.. She/he has a black head and dark brown body. I think that is a cow bird. (I include this, as for me this is unusual and I just wanted to share it)

Sorry Mojo... I just re read that you got them from Cackle. That's what happens when you just wake up, you think you read things but tend to miss some things.

Are they Dark, light, or Buff, regular or bantam. I kind of figure that bantams don't fit your "flock plan". If Julie orders them from a different hatchery it would be good to get some from her so that you could strengthen their genetics. (not inbred so much)

I just realized that with the current bator hatch and the broody hen's hatch along with my last bator hatch that I have more than doubled my flock again.

Looks like more than the economy will be downsizing around here.

and yes, I can get obsessive

I got them from Cackle (since I have Dellies ordered through there, anyway, and I didn't have to give them all my info, they got it on file - plus it is cheaper than Mt. Healthy and sooner).

I'm easy to please, just give me what I want and right now!!

It turns out I somehow managed to get one Black Cochin in that mix I got this morning - Shelley? ya want a black cochin? Trade ya for something.....

Benny and Joon decided to go for a stroll today - across the road (the road is 1/4 mile across the hay field!!) thankfully I saw them just as they hit pavement, and I drove out to chase them back
lau.gif
naughty geese!!!

Those 7 geese eggs I have in the bator all seem to be developing!!

I hope I get some goslings out of it - by then maybe the pen will be done, and I can keep these ones to home a little better if they are raised here.

Not that I want Benny and Joon to go off somewhere, but it might happen, so I'd better be prepared for it, I guess.

I doubt I'd have anything you want? Unless you need a buttercup cockerel? Other than that, the only LF chicks I have are EE, and 2 OEG mixes.

Well folks, Day&Day is officially out of bantam chicks
big_smile.png
They had 3 left when I got there, 1 millie and 2 black silkies. Cris will be happy

I couldn't decide if I wanted the buff or black cochins, so I just got both
lau.gif
Not sure if I'll keep all the cochins, but at least this way, I'm bound to have at least ONE pair!
gig.gif
We already have one hen, but by the time these are old enough to fool around, Bertha will be over 1 1/2 years old. I was planning on getting some buff orps to sell, but those buff cochins were just too fluffy to pass up!

I figured the bantams wouldn't last long - they hardly got any in at all.

The buff cochins were pretty, thought about it, but didn't want to deal with cochins (they don't lay for me at all).

I'll just sell the black cochin chick at Sano - no worries

That's sort of why I ordered 25 brahmas - by the time they are laying, the brahma girls I have will be almost 2 years old, so I figured to get enough for a flock, and not just to fill a few spaces.

When I go to the auction over at Eli's in April, all I'll be looking for is calves and pigs, I guess - no more poultry for me right now - seriously

(well, unless I see something I have to have
