Kentucky people

If they do have em, I may get ten of them instead of 5 and just buy two bags of starter - all these chicks are eating a LOT so I can use the starter.

I just hope I can walk past the duckie bin and not take any home with me

They said they had some come in on Tuesday, but they were gone when I got there. I'm not sure if I'll get sny bantams or not. I have way too many chicks as it is. I know I'll be getting at least one bag of flock raiser, and whichever chicks I get from that will be sold. Unless they have some more black cochins, I'd probably get some more of them.

When I called Monday they said nothing about Tuesday shipment (although, I didn't talk to Julie, and I should have!!!)

They did say the Thursday order was the Big One.

You should have seen that broody brahma hen today when I gave her 8 eggs (she only had one at the time). She wiggled and squiggled with this look of sublime happiness of her face, adjusting them under her just so (this went on for about three full minutes) and then she settled in and looked around as if she'd be-head any other hen that got close

.

Even Mr. Speckles gave her a wide berth.

When we gave Cris's silkie hens some more eggs, I just had him set them on the ground in front of them. They both looked at the eggs like "How the he!! did you get out there??' and then proceeded to roll the eggs under their bellies!

They are so cute.

broody hens are hillarious.

Talked to hubby - I am definately getting at least 10 brahmas tomorrow (if they get them in) because by the time they start laying, my girls I have now will be about two years old. Maybe I ought to get 15 of them... ? I'll have to make allowances for roos - I can tell reasonably well on my own hatched chicks, but hatchery brahma chicks, harder to tell if they are roos or girls, maybe.

I am thinking I'll set the alarm and go in way early, so I can get there before they are gone (with luck before they are out of the boxes!!).

I can do chores when I get home

Oh, btw - the Amish consignment auction in April in Gradyville is at Eli's house.

It's easy to find (hope he has enough parking !!) it's right on/off 80 just past Gradyville. He has a big sign by the road that says "Fresh Eggs For Sale" (he has a flock of golden comets).

He's the guy I got my Brahma girls from (and the pig that is in my freezer).

I just got off work and checked on my broody. She is doing fine all fluffed up with her head pointed out of the nest. I couldn't lift anything to see if any more were hatched but she looks really fat sitting there. I know she has to be near skin and bones after 3 weeks but she is still sitting tight.

I thought about giving treats but I don't want to discourage her so I didn't give any of the hens any treats.

My bator has five hatched Dark Cornish already on day 20. Several others are pipped. I took out the shells and some of the dividers and put all the chicks together in one spot. Five minutes later and they had crawled all over the eggs. So I will just leave them be.

Wow things are happening fast. I need to build a brooder for my broody. Set up a brooder for my newly hatching chicks and take care of my 5 week old chicks, which are starting to grow like weeds. Oh and my tooth is killing me. Got to get it looked at.

It was a long day at work and I'm very tired. I'll have to get back with youall later.

Welcome to BYC Roosterjerry. Let us know what kind of chicken ya got when you figure it out. We are all a bit nosie about these things.

I went into the kitchen to fill the water can for the 5 week olds after my last post and heard a lot of cheaping so after giving them fresh water I went back to check on the bator. I now have 7 hatched chicks. 6 Dark cornish and one Red Silkie. At this point they all look about the same. Hopefully tomorrow when they get a chance to dry off I can tell a difference.

Perhaps I should check on them again in 30 minutes?

But I really need to close my eyes right now...
