How long on chick starter?

My 6 chicks are about 6 weeks old now and are running low on chick starter, so before I run out and get another 50 bag, I was wondering how much longer they need to be on it, if at all. I wouls rather get a smaller bag if they only need another week or two. Thanks!!
 
Um Ours are 3 weeks old and we are already mixing in millet to stretch the chick starter. We give them a source of grit, and so far its working well. If yours are twice the age of mine then I would say to get a smaller bag and start mixing in something else to get them adjusted... but I am not expert, we are learning as we go over here!!!
 
They can stay on the starter/grower till they start to lay. If its a brand that has Starter and Grower read the side of the bag, it will tell you when to switch.

Good question and good to know. I just ran out of chick starter myself and have been using Dumar. My chicks are six weeks so I think it's time to maybe move them to grower.

Found some info...

Grower Feeds
At 10 weeks of age, a grower feed should replace the starter feed. Grower feeds are typically 15%-16% protein, and are designed to sustain growth to maturity. The higher protein content (20%), in starter/grower feeds is recommended for growing game birds.

I am using a start and grow and think I'll go with that, unless I find the grower/finisher. The bag says both are alright for now, but the grower/finisher is better for after 11 weeks until they lay. Will it hurt them to stay on starter/grower until they lay if they aren't game birds?
