How long on chick starter?

Our chicks are 6 wks. We went into the feed store the other day to get scratch because so many people were suggesting that. The owner who's had chickens forever told me she still gives all her chickens chick starter food ALONG with lots of veggies and fruits. She said to give them lay mash IF we wanted, but starter food is the best.

feed store doesn not have "start and grow" Where can I purchase? What else can I feed them to make them lay eggs-they are 7weeks now-1 chicken. 1 duck.

My feed store sells a product called Start /Grow/ Lay I think it is about 22% and I have been feeding my Chickens this since they hatched they are laying and laying well...... the Eggs taste good.
I was told this would be all they would ever need I do feed scratch and Oyster shell and since all the bugs and grasses have come out they have dropped their consumption down quite a bit but I keep reading about people using starter and grower and I ahve been curious to know if I am the only one feeding start/grow/lay or if I am doing something wrong.
