This is my first time hatching and I have a question I can see blood on the chicks feet, is that alright?

I can hear pipping noises coming from under momma hen, and the occasional chirp. But she wont get off the eggs, so Im waiting till she gets thirsty or something to check again. I checked about 2 hours ago, and the cracks were spreading all around the egg. I cant wait for 10 hours here.... i wanna hold a chick RIGHT NOW!

Lots of pips, zips & hatches out there! Wonderful pictures too. Congrats to everyone with your hatches!

bigchrisb1985: Not to worry about seeing that, it's part of what keeps them alive under the membrane. It's ok to see that when they hatch out by themselves. You're doing good!

PandoraTaylor: My, what lovely green heads your EE's have. Good hatch!

Tanichca: HYPER-EXCITED, oh you're definitely one of us!

thechickonthehill: Go Favs!!!

Chief: You've got a good broody girl there! It's so fun to watch how they take care of their chicks.

ThreeBoysChicks: It's just a showoff & wanted to be first! Good dividers.

hipeatall: Lovely pics, cute chicks! They are great posers too, like the blue frames.

amberglas: Welcome to the BYC! Good luck with your hatch, look forward to hearing & maybe pics. Chameleons, wow 200+ days; wonder what they look like when they hatch.

It looks clean to me. How is it doing now???

All I see is a vein on the egg membrane, but the chick looks fine. How's it doing now? Is it drying off and trying to move around? Congrats!!

Still have 1 question- Is Momma hen supposed to peck at the zipped/pipped eggs?

and, as of 3 minutes ago, one of the ameraucana eggs (either the pipped on or the zipped) was rotten and only had the appearance of being zipped/pipped 'cause momma hen was pecking on it. thats 5 EGGS GONE. out of the 13 i started with. i am really starting to think this was a dud hatch....

OKAY GOOD NEW FINALLY!
checked a silkie pipped egg because all "pips" so far have been rotten eggs that cracked, BUT when i looked at it instead of the blackish greenish mess of rottenness there was something WHITE AND FLUFFY inside.

Got home last night at 11 to find 2 pips (10 eggs total). At 2:34 this morning I could hear the chick peep peep peeping as I was becoming unsettled my 6 year old appears at the side of the bed saying dad the chicken hatched! Good stuff!!! So I got up and took a few pics. Left the house this AM at 7:30 with no further progress. When I got home at 2:10 the second chick was zipping, rather quickly I might add. Not only that but I had 3 more pips. Right now I haven't opened the incubator at all since pipping began, only once since lock-down started to fix a water problem. Things are looking good. So I have 2 black Jersey Giant chicks. My other pips are on 2 more JG eggs and 1 Delaware.

Schlante,
Phillip

Ps YES I'll post pics as soon as I can, which will probably be a while. I did get a 4 min video of the zipping and emerging 2nd chick.
