The Red-Blue Blur (Roosevelt)... Look At This Humongous Baby (PICS)

I go out around roosting time and pet him, rub his wattles, and tell him that he'll have some girlfriends very soon!

Aw, he's going to be a good boy for you, I'm sure. I can't wait to see what he turns out to be when he's about a year old or so.

ETA: Found Nugget on a nest. She's been there for hours, crawled into it at roost time. Last time she did that, she was broody. I was wondering if she'd go broody after Roosevelt was taken away from her. It's the only time she feels safe and in charge, it seems. She is very low on the totem pole, at the bottom, below the banty Cochin. Motherhood is her calling, I guess. If she's there tomorrow, guess I need to decide if I'm giving her eggs or not.

Update on the Red-Blue Blur!

He has a harem of Leghorns, Barred Rocks, and EEs at the moment. Plans for this year include getting him some nice sturdy Orpington ladies.

And I believe he's the daddy of one of the only three chicks to hatch from our first batch of eggs; no pics yet of the baby, but he stands almost twice as tall as the other two chicks hatched the same time.

The second pic is Roosevelt standing beside a fully grown Leghorn hen. Poor girl...

Yes, he's still as sweet to people as he was when I picked him up! But he sure doesn't like anyone messing around with his ladies. He chased one of my little dogs out of the enclosure for just getting close to a hen. I'm going to have to invest in some hen saddles... some of them are getting mighty bare. His ladies have been laying steadily even thru winter. We have over 80 eggs set at the main farm and 28 eggs in a friend's Sportsman, so around the end of March and the beginning of April there should be lots of little Roosevelts running around. I can hardly wait!
