I'm just tickled that she's going to have my Button babies.
I really don't think she's going to be able to resist keeping them. I can watch them for hours, and when their true colors come to a rest at 5-6 weeks, she will be amazed.
I have 25 Buttons and 25 Coturnix (thanks Sam!
) in the bator right now, and a broody Bobwhite stockpiling 8 eggs so far. After that, any more quail hatching will be for eating. The very first 19 eggs that were laid by the Buttons were put in the bator - 13 hatched, and of the 6 that did not hatch, only 2 had quitters. The 25 in my 'bator right now are the ones laid after the first 19, or the 2nd week's worth. I expect good things from that hatch. Miss P got the 3rd week's worth of eggs, and the next two week's are already promised out. I expect good things from them, too, as long as the PO didn't do a number on them.
Now... having said that I'm done hatching chickens for the year, even though I don't have to worry about the heat, I have received an offer that I simply cannot refuse and will be giving the BBS orps one last hatch in another week.
I have one splash, and I think one black (either that or a verydark blue), and one or two more would allow me to start my own small flock. And again, having said that, I haven't finished my second coop and I already think I'm going to need to build either a third, or add on to the ones I have!
Miss P, here's what you have to look forward to in a couple of weeks...
