4 out of 4 hens! Yay
Lol and yesterday we got this weird egg that was totally strong and good to eat but it was all warped, sort of lopsided like it had been smashed. The chicken is healthy and everything, I guess those weird eggs just happen sometimes!
Yeah, like everyone's saying, it's usually about 6 months. We have a Buff Orpington that we thought would never lay and finally started at 8 months. Also, I'd say your chicks look like Golden Comets maybe? We have one of those, great birds! From the way the feathers are growing on your birds...
Hi!
I'm no chick expert, so you might be best off getting some more opinions on this, but...
I would say it really depends on the size of the bugs and the chicks. Some breeds grow faster than others. If the bugs seem as big as or any bigger than the chick's beak, I would not feed it to them. I...
We have 3 Easter Eggers, all the same age. Is Zina a rooster?
/\ Left: Cosmos, one of the other EE's Right: Zina
/\ Cosmos
/\ Zina
/\ (Zina on the left) Saddle feathers, maybe?
Thanks!
Buff Orpingtons would probably be a good breed for you, ours is pretty quiet and they're great dual purpose breeds. Ours lays huge eggs and she's also a good meat bird size. Chickens usually slow down or stop laying after about 2-3 years, by the way.
Lol, chicken math! Very true! I think you are right, maybe we'll wait until next year. Altough, the main reason we are considering getting a couple more is because we are worried about the breed, if we can show it for 4-H or not. We have ameraucanas and welsummers, which of course lay...
Hi! :) We got 8 baby chicks recently. They're 2 weeks old now. One died and we're questioning the breeds we got, so my question: Would it be a bad idea to bring in one or two more day-olds to the two-week flock? (Some of the two-weeks are very small, like as small as they were at one day. Others...
Oh, ok. Sorry, I though they legally had to be pure bred if they were labeled Americaunas.
Anyone have any ideas what she might be? We were thinking buff Orpington? Thanks, sure is a shame our other "Americaunas" won't be able to enter the 4-H show :/
We did get her from a feed store, but she was with other "Americaunas" who almost surely were real Americaunas. But thanks, maybe she is an Easter egger.
Thanks everyone for your advice! We did everything we could, but it wouldn't keep food or even water down. Maybe it was underdeveloped either in its brain or digestive tract. Anyway, I guess that's why we bought more chicks than we're planning on keeping. Thanks again everyone!
