    Tiny crack in incubated egg

We are on day 9 of incubation for quail. I noticed that one has a small crack and I candled it, and the crack is located on the air sack... Is it better to be on the air sack? Thanks everyone!

    Double yolk incubation

So I'm incubating coturnix quail eggs and one of the eggs is about 2 times larger than the others.... My question is, can only one yolk be fertilized and not the other? If so what would happen? And I know that I'm taking risks with a double yolker, but a bear ate the majority of my previous...

    Candling

I set 15 quail eggs yesterday at 7PM in an incubator that's only supposed to hold 12. I was thinking about candling the eggs either the fifth or seventh day that way I can discard any that are infertile. Which would be better? Can I see pictures of candling on the 5th day and 7th day? Thank you! :)

What to do with male quail

So I think I've come to the conclusion that I have all males. I vent sexed them and they all have that little bulb thing. I successfully hatched 8 baby tibetan coturnix quail 6 months ago and they all are male! I know many of the bloggers on "backyard chickens" use the birds for meat but I just...

    Quail issues

So lately I've been trying to determine the sex of my quail and today I decided to vent sex them and of the eight quail, I have one female and seven male! What should I do? I don't use artificial lighting so I haven't gotten a single egg. I want to breed so I can have more female but I want to...

    Need advice

The most common and reliable quail for meat AND eggs are jumbo coturnix quail. They mature around 8-10 weeks and lay eggs year-round with artificial lighting. They are larger and provide more meat. Currently I have a smaller coturnix called tibetan and they are not any trouble you just have to...

    Quail mating season

When are coturnix quails mating season? My males have been doing their mating call lately and also I have found foam in the males poop. If a male mates with a female, will that female lay eggs? I'm using natural lighting so it hasn't yet reached a full 14 hours for them to lay yet. Im really...

    Quail still not laying

I'm pretty sure I have at least two or three females because they are bigger than the males. Recently there have been some quail that have gone on the nest box and sat there a while but there's never an egg after. I feed them the game bird feed with 22% protein. And so far I've seen two...

    Quail still not laying

It's been almost 7 months and I have not gotten a single egg from my tibetan coturnix quail. They hatched at the end of August and were fully matured by the end of October. I've read that they need 14 hours of sunlight or artificial light to lay. They are outside with no artificial lights so...

    Tibetan coturnix not laying

I have eight and sometimes at night I will hear partial crow from one. I've also noticed the back of the hens feathers are missing around the neck and head area. I came up with two conclusions: the other hens are Fighting with a eachother or the rooster is mating with them. They are outside so...

Is something wrong with my eggs?

To your second question, it seems like they need more calcium. To correctly form a shell, the chicken need the correct substance of calcium. You can grind up oyster shell. I've even heard some people use chickens egg shell! I don't necessarily use chicken egg shell, but if you can't find oyster...

    Tibetan coturnix not laying

My tibetan quail are 4 months old and have not layed a single egg yet. Maybe it is just because its winter..... Anyone please let me know. Thank you! :)

    Help! One chick has hatched...

One baby quail has hatched but the rest have only pipped... I'm afraid if I take it out, the humidity will drop and kill the others. How long can a baby stay in the incubator? I'll be at school for 7 hours and I think it hatched in the middle of the night.
