    South Texas Aea

We are new to the South Texas area and I am looking for others that are keeping chickens in their yards. We moved here from Utah and there were no issues, i.e. heat, humidity.. I would like to have a small coop again but looking for advice.

Need help, think one of my girls is "Brooding"?

Thank you for the info.. Unfortunately Roosters r not allowed here and I have the legal max for chickens. Will try the "separated " idea, of course with plenty of water and food. What causes this behavior?

Need help, think one of my girls is "Brooding"?

She will not leave the nest unless I take her out to eat and drink. This has been going on for 3 days now. My egg count is down from 5 to 2-3 a day. Girls free range the back yard so i have started looking for eggs in other places in the yard. Is there anything I can do to stop this behavior or...

    Petting

I started with five 2 day old chicks Easter 2012. Never did it before, just wanted baby chicks. From day one I held each one daily, talked to them and just spent time with them. People who have chickens that I know, say they have never seen birds like mine. They free roam in our back yard and of...

    DIY 12VDC water warmer

I use the pale and nipple system and hang it inside the coop(2 1/2 gal due to coop size) With it getting colder here I started looking for ways to keep the water from freezing. I bought a "fish tank" heater for 12.00 and it works great! It warms a 5 - 15 gal tank AND it will shut off if there...

My girls have started to lay. They r all 26 wks. First day one egg, next none. We went along like that for about 2 1/2 wks. Yesterday 5 eggs! Today, 2 soft shelled broken eggs. What could this mean? They have been on laying feed for 2 months and of course get fresh everything daily. The nights...

    When to start Laying feed

My girls are 17 weeks, there are 5. I have them on Flock feed now and want to know at what age to change them to Layer feed ? The answer seems to depend on who I ask, so I thought I'd try my friends....

    Is this behavior normal ?

New to this. My girls are 11 weeks, 4 Red Sex Links & 1 Black Laced Wyndott. Have noticed each one will lay down, ruffle her feathers and cover herself with nesting or dirt. Thinking this is a "cleaning thing" but want to make sure it's ok behavior.
