I have three chickens and five ducks in two separate pens. It doesn't get too cold in Texas but we are expecting a polar vortex this Sunday morning. It is expected to be in the 20s most of the day with a wind chill and feels in the 9 degree range. I know chickens and ducks can survive this...
As far as I know, yes.
They both seem to have the female "honk" albeit one is quieter than the other.
I also get 2 eggs a day (sometimes a magical three).
Does this seem like a mating wound?!
I have two 8 month old Pekin female ducks. The other day I was feeding and changing out water and my 6 year old wanted to pet one. I scooped one up and noticed she was missing feathers on the top of her neck and the high part of her feathers. I wasn't sure if this was a normal molt or if she was...
My chickens & ducks will be moved to their permanent outside structure in the coming week. It is now 98-99 with humidity making it feel like 108-110. My feathered kids have been enjoying a comfortable 74 degrees in doors with no elements. They are quite spoiled. I am nervous about moving them...
I keep my eggs on the counter in a basket. I get a lot of eggs each day and I have read they last longer out of the fridge. I packed up a dozen for a friend and left them on the counter at my grandmother's house so I could swing by there after work without totting them along. My grandmother...
I have a 23 week old BR who just started laying. Over the past few days I've noticed the end of her comb, closest to the top of her head, looks like it is sinking in. This may not mean anything but I was concerned she was lacking a vitamin or maybe even getting sick. Has anyone ever had this...
Thank you!
I was just shocked with her random moments lately!
Perhaps she is getting close to laying and didn't like that I was cleaning up around her.
It looks like my girls are truly shaping up to be girls.
I am still a little concerned with Thea.
At 21 weeks she seems to be a bit more aggressive than normal.
She even bit my hand when I was rest it on the ground.
Her tail feathers look a bit different as well.
She hasn't tried crowing at...
Yes! I love their head tilt! I always talk in a "baby voice" and they tilt their heads like little puppies.
I am glad it all looks good :) I am a nervous poultry parent haha.
This is my first go but all my babies are healthy.
According to Ideal Poultry they are female Pekins at least :)
The egg looks less brown now that I revisited the picture, haha.
I think this morning I might have been tired :)
Thank you both so much!
I have one funny question....
This is her first two eggs but both were small and brown in color.... is this normal for a pekin?
I was expecting large white eggs.
My chickens are currently living in my spare bedroom as we build their coops.
They turned 19 weeks old today and I have been expecting eggs any day now.
Their sister ducklets are now hens as they laid their first eggs yesterday.
Will my pullets lay without a nesting box? Should I go ahead and...
I have two female pekins and I noticed two eggs the past two days (one a day) and they just turned 19 weeks old today. I am not sure if just one is laying or if BOTH of them is laying.
Do I switch to layer or should I just add a supplement until I know they are both laying? I don't want to...
