Yay that is good news indeed!! My chicks are hanging out indoors in a cat basket on a hot water bottle tucked up by the radiator. Seems mother hen is happy to hatch eggs but boots the chicks out the nest once they're out. Shes accidentally squished one to death too. But other than that its all...
My 4th chick hatched out 7/8 hours ago. Cheeping away. Seems to be ok. Wobbling around on his unsteady legs like they do. This is my first hatch. Other 3 are doing fine.
But earlier the newest one pooped a water poo with two bright green lumps in it. I read this means kidney and liver failure...
Ive two chicks now. A third hatched but looks like mum squashed it to death as was very flat looking but was dry and fluffy. Took the rest of her eggs from her and gave them to my other hen :/
Just went downstairs to check on mum, her and baby seem fine. Second egg has pipped. Little tiny hole in the membrane and i can see a bit of movement. I removed the smell lose bits of shell and put the egg back. I must say my hen doesnt seem to mind one bit me going in an poking around, must be...
Thank you :)
I am proud, this is the first hatch I've ever done and the same goes for my hen so I'm proud of her and the little guy for making it out because I thought I lost him at one point :D But I've decided any further hatches shall be incubated. Too stressful all being done in my garden...
Good news, I can hear another egg cheeping away :D fingers crossed its out in the morning :D and as promised, one of the egg so you can tell me if this looks normal :) one just after the hatch still a little wet and then two I took this morning all dry and fluffy :D
So I went out last night and he had hatched. Grabbed a quick picture and i'll upload that later. He has made it through the night and seems happy, I think.
I'll upload my picture later when on the pc, an try and get one of him now hes all fluffed up. But hes grey with a golden face and two...
Thank you so much for replying! I do really appreciate it, it has helped to have others to talk too. I'll go check before i go to bed in a couple more hours an see where we're at. I'll try an get a picture also for you all to see of the pipped egg and keep you updated :)
I just went to tuck my chickens in for bed and one of my eggs had pipped and there was cheeping! And mum agreed it sounded like more than one chick :D so happy now!
looks like hes broken the egg but not the white bit under it, is that normal or should I be doing something?
Broody hen. He was the only one cheeping but my broody has been stealing other chickens eggs so they're all incubating at different stages.
Hes stopping cheeping now so I'm feeling pretty disappointed as I think he was the only one developing right.
My chick has been cheeping in his egg for about 72 hours. I am so scared he'll suffocated. Would it be terrible of me to make a little air whole in the air sack end and then put him back in the nest for mum to sit on?
I dont know how many days chicks cheep before pipping an hatching as this is...
Thank you so much for the advice, this wasn't in the slightest planned out and I realize its a mess. I went away for about two weeks and left my mother with my chickens and strict instructions, upon my return I had two broody hens and a lot of eggs and my mother going "oh Im meant to check under...
I realize this is probably a strange question but my hens are sitting on roughly 20 eggs between them, one is cheeping, the others are at various stages of development due to other hens laying eggs and these two broodys stealing them
What I want to know though, is say my one little cheeper...
Incredibily late to replying to my own post, sorry!
Well I can safely say without a doubt Lemon is a rooster! I can also say he is not in anyway a pekin. He looks like a sussex/brahma. I think hes a combination of the two. Either way hes very nice and I love his crowing! He enjoys talking...
As the title suggests my broody hens (yup two at once) are sitting on about 14 eggs between them. All at various stages of development due too the other hens laying and these broody hens adopting their eggs. But... A few of them eggs are all around the same age/time. Last night i went out to...
