The chickens are from my flock and very healthy. They free range on about an acre and eat 16% chicken feed from a local feed mill and I also throw out scratch. They also get any kitchen veggie or fruit scraps. Occaisionally they get a Purina Flock Block too.

I will admit that I didn't read every thread so I might have missed some things, but your dog is becoming protective, which is what an LGD does around the age of 2. Killing the cats and dogs on his land is common, he is protecting what is his and these intruding animals are not part of his flock...

I sell my mixed breed roosters on Craigslist for 4.00 each and have at least 5 people respond every time I post an ad. They are not going as pets, but I don't have the time or inclination to harvest them myself so I will gladly take the 4.00.

I agree 100%. I am there right now. I just wanted to make they know that there are a lot of dogs that guard flocks very successfully and in the long run can be a good solution.

I agree that it can take hours, or months, but there are flock friendly dogs, many times they are a livestock guardian breed. Go over to BackYardHerds to the LGD section and ask people with LGDs and chickens. You will find many of them, I am one of them. My 3 year old female is flock friendly...

Pox. I had one get it in her eye and she ended up losing the eye entirely. Not much to do but watch and wait. As far as others getting it, some do, some don't. Out of 50+ I had maybe 10 that got it.
