Everything is going great,my flock is healthy, happy, and growing well,my only issue seems to be with figuring out exactly how old my big cockerel is,and how to get this hen laying ! Farmer originally said she had hatched eggs(hence the babies I took along with her)but then after speaking to him...
Okay so I recently acquired a hen)buff Orpington) from another farm about a week ago,she hasn't laid since getting here, and pretty much kept to herself, didnt really go outside and stayed in the coop..I made a little nesting spot for her(our nesting boxes aren't ready yet as all our other birds...
Yes I ve been keeping her separated from the rest of the flock, and today let her out in the run for a bit with them(she did great no problems),then I put her back....I go in to my coop and run atleast 6-7x a day to either give treats, feeding, cleaning, just to say hello, and sometimes just to watch...
no I haven't,but ive been checking her poop several times a day and its clean! I think its stress plus I noticed when we got her that her toe looks broken, shes walking fine and getting onto perches without any issues... I'm going to give it a few more days, and use Cheyenne pepper in all my birds...
my chickens don't have worms and have no signs however ive been putting a clove of garlic in their water(fresh clove each week) since they were chicks, and will be doing the cayenne pepper this week as a preventative measure and will repeat if needed,if not ill do again in the spring...Love this...
I have hatchery DP pullets, and heritage breed Buff Orpingtons (Hen and rooster) for breeding... I also have a few Orpington pullets and cockerels too..I plan on keeping my cockerels in a separate area(as they will be strictly for meat)and only allowing my rooster to mate with the Orpington...
I recently added a buff Orpington hen to my flock, and she has laid eggs and even hatched some, but ive nothing since I got her it could be stress from the move, because the farmer assured she was an excellent layer ,and that shes just under 27 weeks...
ive made her a nesting area(don't have my...
Ive spoken to a few people and they've said she should still be laying regardless of the move, and that chickens don't get as stressed out as we often tend to make them out to be, and maybe that's true but the fact is my hen has not laid since I got her, which leads me to think shes stressed!
Recently got a new full grown buff Orpington hen, shes already laid eggs, and even hatched some, now clearly the move from one farm to another is stressfull,so I don't anticipate any eggs for a bit,but I'm curious how long it will take after she settles in before she'll start laying again?and what...
I'm going through the same thing right now..I got a few half grown pullets(2 cockerels),and a hen.. The hen is doing just fine, but the babies spend the majority of the time in the coop, ive only managed to get 2 outside, and that was only when the hen was out there too..
I agree...My son is a bit upset because he wants to keep them, but I personally think 3 males in total is WAY too much..If we had a bigger flock then fine but we don't have enough females to keep all 3 males happy, and I'm not getting anymore either..lol
The purpose of getting my cockerel was to...
I have 11 females altogether( 1 Hen and 10 pullets ),3 of the pullets are from the same hatch as the 2 young cockerals, but my older Cockeral(aprox.13 weeks old) was not..Ive posted an add on a local site to try and sell the 2 cockerals and hopefully I get a response,id hate to have issues or...
I thought so about keeping more than one male together in the same coop...Hopefully the farmer will call back and allow me to exchange them for 2 pullets,if not ill have to keep them separate until I sell them,or find them a home..
And yes I will try to get a pic of her toe!
