Any idea about these little peeps?

One has a bigger comb and waddle that is much redder than the other 5. But other than that they all look the same to us. (These are chickens my Orpington hatched and yes, they are black australorps) My mom, the OP, is keeping 3 of them and I am taking 4 f them back to stay with my 7. We can't...

    Egg bound or broody?

I sure hope so. If it turns out she is, we want to get her a few fertile eggs. (My mom wants a few chickens!) What a fun spring this could be! I am hoping she lays an egg so I can stop worrying, too.

    Egg bound or broody?

I am new to having chickens (got them last year) so this is my first layer "issue". One of my Orpingtons has been in the nest box since yesterday. It looked like she was trying to lay an egg and she was all puffed up. She was still there and still puffed up this morning (with no eggs, I remove...

I'm still shaking, WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES

I am really sorry about your chickens. One of my german shepherds got 2 of my chickens this summer. I cried for 3 days. The dog lives elsewhere now. I hope she decides to rehome the dogs instead of killing them. I never understand why people let dogs run loose.

Red roost mites... do I treat the chicken or not? Discard eggs?

Got it. Thanks. So do I keep the eggs? Can I add water to get it into the little cracks between wood panels?

Red roost mites... do I treat the chicken or not? Discard eggs?

I bought some permethrine powder(Garden and poultry dust) and I cleaned out the nest boxes and put a little powder in there and then put new pine shavings on top. I checked the birds skin, and they don't look irritated at all. I can't find any bugs on the girls. I only happened to see a few last...

    We're losing her.... UPDATE 4-14

I just wanted to update that she is HUGE now. But her comb never really turned red and I am not sure that she is laying. (She might be... but i have NEVER seen her in the nest box and I have seen all the others) She seems happy and healthy otherwise, though!

    Metal waterer stinks!!

Even after a good washing, even after soaking in a little bleach. It will be ok for a day after the good cleaning, but then just stinks. (It never was like that at the beginning) I stopped using it and want to get a new waterer. What should I get?

It was a double. I took a picture, but it's not uploaded. I was so hoping for an egg in an egg. But this is still cool.

Not yet. In the morning I think we'll be making eggs. I'll let you know what's inside it!

    HUGE egg!! picture included

I don't even know who layed (laid?) it! We have 3 buff orpingtons, a rhode island red, an ameraucana, a golden sexlink, a barred rock, and a silver laced wyandotte. I *THINK* it came from the red, she has been laying the longest and she generally has the biggest eggs and that's the color of...
