I have a chicken that just started laying two weeks ago. Her egg shells are hard as rocks and the membrane under the shell is super tough too. The chickens pen is on top of gravel... Is this why?
New to this.... I have 3 chickens, 2 hens, 1 roo. One hen just started laying this week. How can I tell if they are fertilized or not? I have heard that these eggs are not fit to eat?

I have some broken chickens. 2 hens that havn't laid the 1st egg and a Rooster that don't crow. They are all at least 24 weeks old... What do you think? I know some hens won't lay until the next spring, but will they start this late?

you know how much money you could make off of eggs that didn't have yolks in them?! People are always using egg whites only and having to separate the yolk. You could make a mint!
Today I added a 6'x10' dog kennel to one end of my 'a' frame coop for the chickens to have a little more room to run. This is the first time they have been out since I got them about 3 weeks ago. I'm not sure how old they are, but I'm guessing 15-17 weeks. I have posted pix of them on here...
