    Silver Appleyard Ducks

This is my appleyard gang. Wondered what your thoughts were on them? They are the best ducks ever. I'm working on growing my breeding group. I have 35 in the bator now. First time hatching so I'm crossing my fingers. They were a few weeks old when I got them so I'm not sure what they looked like...

    Silkie thread!

My silkies love their's! I hung a bucket with three nipples on the bottom from a tree in their pen. They were so curious they were all around my feet. All I did was tap the nipples a few times while they were intrigued and they figured it out in minutes. Now they almost seem sad that they can't...

One more... Not sure what this one is either. Is this what I hear everyone calling gold leakage?

Do you think this is splash or grey? I'm thinking rooster also?

These pics weren't of ones I thought were considered columbian. Here's a better pic of one. What do you think?

I agree, that's about where I'm at. I'm not in it to make a bunch of cruddy quality chickens just because it's easy to hatch. I'm in it for my true love of the breed. I'm just starting but my eye is on the ultimate improvement.

Curious for opinions from the rest of you breeders. What do you do with your sub-par birds? I assume this comment suggests euthanizing?

    Silkie thread!

I got quite the bunch out of what I hatched. About half and half with the bad single comb. Hard to tell on those if they will be hens or Roos. I separated the ones worth keeping and I'm selling the single combs as pets. I'll post a pic of one of the keepers.

It's not a recognized silkie color. Here's a pic of our colinbian pet roo.

    Silkie thread!

It's been a while since I posted. The babies are almost 8 weeks now and in the silkie uglies. They have all molded into 3 colors. Grey, partridge and Colombian. Since the daddy of some was my pet roo with the single comb I can pick out all the Roos already. I'm definitely in the market for a...

Hilarious! I was thinking the same thing! When I used to breed miniature horses people would say miniature horses are like potato chips; you can't have just one. I think this goes for silkies also! :D

I would say for sure. I read in another thread to mix cayenne pepper, buttermilk and corn meal for something. I think as a treat or something. I gave it to my silkies when they were babies and they chowed it down like pro's. I definitely had a ton of pepper in there and it didn' bother them one bit!
