    Silencing a rooster

Have you thought of trying to place him at a farm animal sanctuary? I don't know of any in your area but you may want to google for some names and reach out to see if someone can take him and perhaps visit to check them out. Good luck!

    baby chick not thriving

I need some guidance on whether or not I can help one of my chicks. We live in Hawaii where there are lots of wild (free-roaming) chickens. The hen mom technically is wild, but we had rescued her as an injured chick 10 mos ago and rehabilitated her in our home. We healed her infection, broken...

    Help-strange behavior!

I know this sounds pathetic since I have had my girls nearly 3 yrs, but how do I do that? Thank you!

    Help-strange behavior!

On second look, she is favoring her left leg; there appears to be a small amount of swelling, and more heat in this leg than the other one. Any suggestions would be most appreciated! Thank you!!

    Help-strange behavior!

My (nearly 3 yr old) plymouth barred rock girl is squatting around her coop (not in the nesting boxes) and also laying down in the corner. Resp rate seems a bit higher. Any ideas? I don't want her to die while I am work today. THANKS!!!

New Hens in with the Old

I don't have any experience with this, and would love to know how most chickens handle new additions to the flock. I have three hens (buff orp, gold laced wyand and barred plym rock). I raised them with an ameracauna (all were together from one day old), but found the ameracauna dead in the coop...

Help! Buff Orp with injured beak. How can I help her?

When I went to feed and check my girls this morning, I found my buff orp has an injured beak. It appears to have a crack about 1/3 of the way up from the end (closer to tip). There is some dried blood along the crack. She was eating some soft bread, a little gingerly, but otherwise seems ok. Do...

    Molting Ameracauna

One of my four girls is molting (whoever described their coop as looking like a pillow fight just happened really nailed the description!). Does anyone know how long it will last? Are some breeds more prone to this than others? Thanks! Danielle

Help! My Ameracauna's feathers are falling out!!

I have no idea what is up! Do chickens molt? My Ameracauna's feathers began falling out this week, and she's super skittish (unlike her usual confident self). She hasn't laid an egg in about 10 days to 2 weeks. Could she have a parasite? She lives in a coop with 3 other hens (1 each gold laced...

no fertile eggs for broody; what to do?

Thank you all for suggestions. What I meant about the 4 chickens getting along is that I don't want to add more chickens and upset the balance. The other three are an Ameraucana, a Plymouth Barred Rock, and a Gold-Laced Wyandotte (and they're all "pals"). We got them together when they were...
