The male on the right of that picture looks very good Julie. Do you have any more pictures of him? Our club show was good last weekend. David Pownall won Champion Orpington with a black bantam cockerel, he also won Reserve Champion with a large black hen that was Club Show Champion last year...

It certainly is great to see such strong interest! I wish we had some of you guys over here! BamaChicken wrote: They may be importing from the US in a few years. JK. I was talking to a close friend and fellow Orpington breeder the other day about this. Julie, you are one of 3 or 4 people on...

. In my opinion, none of them are good examples of Orpingtons at all. The black male has no front, way too much tail, no width and poor balance, he is a cull bird. The black female is squirel tailed, not enough front and is white lobed. The chocolate female has too much tail, too much...

Very promising Julie, do you have any photos of this years blue females? I've just looked on Heirlooms website and there's a photo of a Chocolate bantam female i owned about 5 years ago on the main page, this bird or its progeny were never imported and were never sold on in the U.K. Here's...

Quote: This is one of the most promising blue pullets ive seen in a long time. Ground colour looks good and in a few months when she has filled out i think her type will be good too, I also think she will be a much better bird as a 2/3 year old. The one thing i would say, is keep an eye on...

It's the strength of lacing that I feel everyone should be striving for with exhibition blues. The standard here calls for the blue ground colour with each feather laced with a darker blue. The thickness of lacing isn't suggested, but I think a stronger lacing over all on a good good ground...

Quote: Its taken me a little longer than i hoped, but here are a couple of pictures of what i would consider very good colour. This is one of Julies photos i believe, but to date i think its the best ground colour i have ever seen on a blue orp. If the lacing was a bit stronger it would...

Over here the shade of blue is one of the most important thing, dark blues just aren't considered in the show pen. It is incredibly easy to breed 100's of dark well laced blues, it's incredibly difficult to breed 1 light well laced blue!! I believe Andalusian breeders have the same problem. Ill...

He does have a good topline, his tail is a lot neater than it appears in the picture. He also has very good depth and a lovely head. The main reason i didn't breed from him is his colour. For me, in exhibition males, the divide in colour from the top half and the bottom half should be a lot...
