The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Quote:
Unfortunately Richard I don't think anyone has the Imported Bantams in anything other than the chocolate (other than the new colors being imported now by several). Until recently there was not a crave for English "bantam" orpingtons. Most of us only have the American size bantam orps as that is what was/is here and available.

Yep - I have 6 colors of imported English bantams now - but they will not be ready until mid 2012. I was hoping as other chocolate owners to find a black out there somewhere.

Salina I am so happy for you. They make me proud. look at the size of those girls. I think our UK friends would be so happy we have such a great interest in increasing the number and type on the blues. They may be importing from the US in a few years. JK.

Thank you so much for coming on and sharing the photos. I am so impressed with you and RR's birds.

One more thing Salina. Promise to show me pictures after they get through their first molt. They are always more beautiful the second year.

I was talking to a close friend and fellow Orpington breeder the other day about this. Julie, you are one of 3 or 4 people on the planet i would consider going to if i wanted the best possible start in large Blue Orps. You've definitely overtaken the vast majority over here!

Here's one of my most mature blue males from 2011. He will probably be going to our club show in 3 weeks.

Would love comments and opinions.

Jeremy, to answer your question, I think I overshot the runway a little bit hatching this year. They were much higher fertility, much more vigorous hatch, strong, healthier chicks than I was used to with rare silkies and CBM's, LOL Almost everything that went in the incubator hatched, and almost everything that hatched, made it. Who knew???!!!

It was a blue roo over three black pullets from Bama Chicken. They are approx 75% English. My Bama Chickens were 75%, and I used a roo hatched from imogene. He was HUGE, and English cross type, not pure, but fair looking. I have a 100% English cockerel to cross the 75%ers on now. Have just hatched a few babies as test hatches. Only three of the pullets are laying right now. I wanted to be able to choose the very best pullets to put with him, so I kept letting them grow out. They really do not show their true glory until they are around six to eight months old... which is now. Birds I thought were very cullish two months ago, are looking like keepers now, and vice versa. Thanks everyone for the input. I was having a hard time cutitng down, but knowing to sell off the splotch blues makes it a TON easier. This place is the BEST!
Jeremy, if you are needing some 75%ers, let me know...
