Thanks Keeper, that has made things a lot clearer. Would the ducks hatch the eggs themselves, regarless of the time of year or is it better to only let them hatch in the warmer months?
Thanks for the responses so far,
we are sure our Aylesbury and swede are females and the Khaki is a drake (we think)
could someone define "broody" for me
We are quite positive now that we have 2 females and 1 male.
When they start to lay, would they be able to incubate and rear young themselves and what do we need to look for or do (or not do)
sorry if this is a bit vague but we have only just thought about the positbility of having our own...
My Black Swede has started to Quack its quite throaty but she seems to like it.
My Aylesbury was giving the occasional quack last week but seems to have given up, is that normal???
Thanks for all the info, the link is great. the thing is my Campbell is very small, i assumed that the Swede was a Campbell ( thats what we asked for)
and i was concerned that little Cocoa was a lot smaller than the Swede, i knew the Ayles was a big un but now i realsie why she's so much...
I have an Aylesbury, a black Swede and a Khaki campbell
i am fairly sure the Ayles won't need its wings clipped and i'm 90% sure the Swede won't but would any of you recomend that i get the Campbell's wings clipped ( or do it myself )?
is it a fairly easy process? i know you just do one wing...
Is it normal for ducks to sneeze??
I have just returned to my house after being out for a few hours and 2 of them are making a sneezing noise.
Is it a sign of anything i need to worry about?
Thanks Dances,
I was only asking because my Aylesbury has a bit or a cough/sneeze thing going on, it does nt seem to be all the time and i would have thought that if one had them, they would probably all have them?
What is "DE" and is it easy to use and readily available???
Do I have to provide any regular medication for my ducks, ie worming etc.
If so what is the best way to administer and where can i obtain it/them from??
Mrsquacker,
my personal opinion is that the solid yellow one IS an Aylesbury but not a pure bred because his/her bill is not pink.
Be prepared to have a Large duck:)
