I have a flock of 22 Black Autralorp birds. They are about 9 months old. One is a known roo. I have had a large number of them go broody. so far 7 of them at once. I don't have that many broody breaker isolation cages. There goes my egg production. I also discovered a late bloomer who turned out...

Review by '' on item 'Australorp'

I purchased a flock of 25 birds. All Australorps. 2 died young. I can deal with that. I had seven go broody at once. Atleast one so far became what I would describe as a late bloomer and revealed itself as a roo at almost 10 months old. I raise chickens for their egg production. Not an ideal...

    Black Autralorp high maintainence flock

Criteria: they have been found in the nest boxes after dark. When removed, their feathers were puffed up and they were very vocal. Typical broody behavior.

RIR hen all fluffed up, smelly yellow pooh and drinking a lot!!

A few days ago I noticed my RIR hen. She is all fluffed in the feathers. Some poop was tuck to her bum. It was yellowish and VERY smelly. I found her standing in one of the nest boxes sleeping in the middle of the afternoon. Her vent was ok. It looked normal, not blocked or anything. I...

Day 22 and no hatchlings yet. No pipping or pecking either

Set chicken eggs 22 days ago. As of now, no sign of any activity. Should I let them go longer?? There is no pipping, no pecking, no movement. How do I check them without disturbing them?

I have a one-year-old Speckled Sussex. She went broody about 3 weeks ago. A few days ago, I noticed she is still sitting but when I open the nest box, her head is tilted all the way back as if to look straight up to the sky and she is moving erratically. I tried to move her off the nest box...
