How beautiful! And the article is well written and easy to follow. Hoping to do this for my next coop project!

Back Injury - Is Recovery Possible?

Have you discussed dexamethazone injections with your veterinarian? It's a fairly strong steroid but it may help with the lesions and has the bonus of increasing appetite. It's worth a shot (no pun intended) and results would be seen a lot faster- usually within a couple days

    Lethargic rescue chick

Hello! Unfortunately, she passed away on Easter morning... I resorted to tube feeding, which did seem to help, but I think she may have just been too weak at that point. Wishing your lil chick the best!

How do you know baby chick is through fighting?

I'm so sorry. Blessing is such a sweet name and I'm sure for the short time you had him he was a little blessing... you did all you could. :hugs

How do you know your chickens are healthy?

Surprisingly, I've never had an issue with worms outside a nasty case of cocci a year ago. We keep the girls in a 20ft×8ft run with a 7ft×5ft coop that they never use except to lay lol. I've had several chicks die in my hands and it's never easy, but my biggest comfort was knowing I did all I could and gave...

How do you know your chickens are healthy?

It's a very valid fear. And as some pointed out on this thread you can do everything you can to protect them and they'll still get sick. I've only had chickens for 3yrs and have done everything I can to ensure their safety and health (100% predator safe coop, avc in water, oregano, cayenne...

    Chick with no vent?

Hi y'all! I'm posting for a friend who just hatched out some chicks last week. She texted me asking about this one chick in particular that doesn't seem to have a vent... there is a small hole above where the vent typically is and that's how the chick poops and all. Problem is, the hole seems...

    Infected hock! 5 days old.

Did she nick her leg on something? I had a quail chick that survived the incubator falling off the counter but got her leg scratched up. I cleaned the wound with betadine, applied triple antibiotic and added colloidal silver in her water and she healed up nicely
