    Fart Eggs Continually

I have a couple of 3 yr old hens. I'm in the process of downsizing so these little gals will be the end of chicken husbandry for me. In all my 71 years, I have never experienced 'fart' eggs until, these gals. Perhaps they were laid in the woods in my earlier years but never, ever in nests. I...

    Mash, Pellets or Crumbles? Poll!

Yes. Mine waste crumbles. I decreased the amount the 'automatic' feeder dishes out to no avail. And when it hits the ground, bye-bye crumbles because they aren't going to eat it there.

    Still no eggs...

:(I'm an old hand at chickens but I'm completely stumped! I had one old hateful hen who has seen her faithful egg laying come to a halt. Being widowed, I decided I DO want a hen or two. So, I got two 4H pullets the first part of Sept. I got an egg a day for 3 days and then 1 a day sporadically...

    Hateful Old Rhodie

I tried to post this from my iPad and never saw where it went anywhere. I got 2, 4H raised Black Sex Links at the Fair about 3 weeks ago. I've had this breed before and they're good hardy layers. I got eggs for the first 3 days and now, nothing. They are not eating them or I'd at least find...

Can't order my chicks from Cackle, where else do I get SQ bantam chicks?

Little late in the season to be hunting bantams locally. Don't know about mail order. Usually Tractor Supply or a local seed and feed store is great about having a variety but that's in the Spring. Near Easter, unfortunately. "Oh, my child would love to have a baby chicken!!!" Poor creature.

Official BYC Poll: How Many Chickens Do You Have + How Many Chickens On BYC?

I have 1 Rhode Island hen and she's at least 3 years old. Critters invaded and got the other 2. I have yet to figure out how or what. No digging, netting over the 6' chain link pen and yet the rooster is totally gone and the other hen had her head and insides removed.

Mr. Not so welcomed friend Kill or not?

Mr. Snake will eat eggs but I don't think snakes eat every day. Better to give him some eggs than to have a raccoon or possum get in your hen house. My experience is that I think those two kill for fun. I know for a fact possums eat the heads and leave the bodies. If you have a broody hen, move...

Hens laid eggs outside of coop

I can remember "back in the old days" hens nests weren't always inside the hen house. They were nothing more than wooden boxes nailed to trees. I remember getting eggs out of them on my grandparents farm. I was so excited they used to laugh when I brought them in still warm.

Blount County Tennessee 4-H Poultry Project 2012

The best chickens I get are from the TN A&I Fair raised by 4-H'ers. Gentle, healthy and ready to lay. These kids deserve so much credit for their hard work. This year I got two sex link's and they are jewels. Pecking order began right away b/c I had Rhode Island's and they noticed the partial...

Hens laid eggs outside of coop

I have seven hens and they prefer two nests. The one thing I have noticed is that the two they prefer get the least amount of natural light. Yes, they seem to wait until there's a free nest and at times I wonder if there aren't two laying in one at the same time from the location of the eggs...

    Egg With a Suspicious Spot

I'm not new to chickens but am a returning chicken'er after a 25 year absence. I have one old red hen (red sex link) and 6 supposed pullets from this year; March. Of that group, Three Buff's, one golden sex link, a red sometingorother, and one Americana. I am getting 4 to 6 eggs a day. Keep...

Nesting boxes with or without a top

I like the idea of cat litter boxes. I'm assuming they're the one's with the lids? That would deter roosting. I had to line up 5 gal. buckets atop mine to keep them from roosting. My nests are from a bird business that went out of business. I'm sure mine are parrot size. They are stackable if...
