    Small First Eggs?

Hi there. I have a chicken that is cross-bred Silkie and Rhode Island Red/Gamebird. She's about 4 1/2 months old and just started laying a few days ago. We've consistently gotten a tan-colored egg every day for the last 4 days. However, the eggs are all small--about half the size of my other...

    Is this still a hen?

Thanks, frost. Yeah, I love her. I just wish she would stop sitting on top of the watering can and pooping all over it. It seems to be her favorite place. She doesn't like to hang around the other chickens and I think she goes there to get away.

    Is this still a hen?

Yes, she's silkie X RIR/game bird. Sorry, I edited my original post to include that while you were responding!

    Is this still a hen?

A couple months ago I posted some photos of this (I think) hen, and everyone unanimously thought it was a hen. I'm starting to wonder again that that "she" is older. She's 15 weeks old now. Do you still think she's a she? She's a cross between a silkie and RIR/game bird. Sorry I couldn't get...

Question for Rhode Island Red people

I have a 2 1/2 year old Rhode Island Red. Her egg production has gone down quite a bit. We used to get one every day! I'm wondering how often your Rhode Island Reds of this age lay. Our sweetie is laying maybe 2 times/week now. She just finished moulting and wasn't laying at all, so I'm...

Is this even a chicken? Help with breed

Thank you so much for all of these replies and for the pictures. This forum is SO helpful! I'm excited watching her grow, too. She's getting very pretty. I can't wait to see what color her eggs are. The seller also told me her mother lays blue eggs and showed one to me.

Is this even a chicken? Help with breed

I have had this one since it was 7 weeks old. Now it's 10 weeks old. I was told by the person I got her (?) from that the mother was a cross between silkie and "game bird" and the father was a rhode island red. I've been watching it grow and there seems to be absolutely no comb. It's just...

I am SO sad - pullet found dead

bawkbawk, it could have been.....but the blood was in a weird place for that i think--under the wing near the leg. it looks to me like her wing got crunched back and she got squished somehow. the older ones might have pecked once the blood was there. that's why i feel bad. if i had checked...

I am SO sad - pullet found dead

I had two 10 week olds and two 2 year olds all together since the younger ones were 4 weeks old. They were all doing fabulously, though the two groups were avoiding each other. I checked on them this morning and all was fine. A couple of hours later I checked again and one of the younger ones...

older hens and chicks avoiding each other - how long will it last?

I have 2 two year old hens and 2 ten-week old pullets. They have been together in the same coop and run for about 2 weeks now (before that the chicks were in a cage in the run). They avoid each other all day long--the ten week olds hang out inside the coop when the older hens are in the run...

    Egg color predictions

I have a new 7 week old pullet who is mixed silkie and RIR and something else. Mom lays green eggs and we think dad is RIR/silkie. Any guesses what color eggs she's going to lay?
