I have eleven pullets/hens and one rooster. One of the Cochins kept going broody, so I decided to let her have ten eggs to sit on. I picked Maran eggs, so, if the eggs are fertile, the chicks would have a Maran mom and a Production Red (or Rhode Island Red) rooster dad.
My questions mostly...
Hi -- I have three pullets and four roosters right now. The Roos are still pretty young and the pullets are laying down the law, but I know that will change. I am getting ready to have surgery and need to get some stuff settled chicken-wise to make it easier on the caretakers during my recovery...
Thanks for your replies. This one has a different shape than the others, and the others are starting to get the long dark green (could be black) tail feathers. That's why I'm wondering if this one is really a pullet. Could just be wishful thinking.
They are silver-laced Wyandottes, white Cochins and Light Brahmas (they're dark gray and white...not sure what makes them "light"). Thanks for the reply. I know I have some great broody breeds, so maybe one day we'll have chicks.
I have two Wyandottes, three Brahmas, two Cochins and a Speckled Sussex. I will have one Production Red rooster. If I allow babies to hatch, what will I get?
Thanks for any input.
I got stuck with a bunch of roosters, most of which I do not doubt are roosters. This one, though....I'm still holding out hope. Based purely on the feathers, what is your guess? Male or female? This bird is a ten week old Production Red.
I have five ten-week old chickens I'm getting ready to integrate with three five-month old pullets. The five-month-olds are on layer pellets and the ten-week-olds are still on starter/grower crumble. What do I feed when all of them are together? Will it hurt the ten-week-olds to eat layer...
A bantam? Ack. This is getting worse and worse. I'll try and get a better picture of her today, but she's less than half the size of the others. Thanks for the feedback!
I used to think the little one in the back without a comb or wattle was a runt. Now I think she's the only girl. Opinions? They're nine week old production reds.
Hi -- I have three pullets that started laying a couple weeks ago (2 Wyandotte and one Brahma). They have a coop which is enclosed by an electrified chicken fence, so they're semi-free-range.
Within the chicken yard I have a separate chicken tractor with five "Rhode Island Reds" (production...
I rushed out and got probiotics and electrolytes, but I talked to MPC and it seems this little one might just be deformed. I've done all I can, so now nature must take its course. Thanks for all the advice!
