Hurt Roo-pics included. What's going on??

Hi all! Well, last Friday night, we had an attacker on our 'free-ranging' roos. I found my biggest roo (Hernando) half-eaten in their field shelter, with another one standing next to him, holding up a foot. David disposed of Hernando, and I put my little hurt roo in the coop with the hens to...

Roosters are still available. Roosterman-thanks for the offer, but I am rehoming these as pets only. They are handraised and very friendly.

Advice on the following breeds appreciated: Blk. Austro., Buff Orf., Silver-lcd Wynat., Silkies, & C

So, local feed store has an order of chicks (pullets!!!!!) coming in on the 19th, and I would love to get some additional girls to add to my flock. Up to now, I have a few mixed breeds: they are black and white, no idea the breed. Chicks came from a friend who incubates eggs and had a bunch...

    Renovating existing coop-ideas, thoughts appreciated!

Thank you so much for all the info. I loved reading your profile "My Coop" page as well. Lots of good info to remember. How many chickens do you keep total (40+)? Will keep this updated as we work. I am going to run down to the local repurpose store to see if there is any good scrapped lumber...

    Rooster or no rooster?

Walking> Thanks for the link and info. After reading it all, my roosters are just immature and young, so I will try to introduce one back later ( I have two favourites that I am not selling,......). However, I am not OK with my hens getting pecked and missing all the feathers from their backs...

    Carolina Chickenstock Spring 2013

Have a quick question,......may be kind of stupid, but I'm a newbie at this....... Is there any kind of disease control or regulations for vendors bringing birds to this, for sale? I would hate to bring in a new bird to my flock and be bringing in new diseases as well.....

I do NOT need any turkeys, haha. However, I would love to find some EEs, pullets, for laying. :) Any way to tell if any of those will be available? I tried the site and forum links, but not showing up.

    Rooster or no rooster?

I had the same problem with my roosters (had two in my coop with my 11 girls), with the girls getting pecked at and their backs and heads getting 'plucked'! I prompted threw the boys out. They were not very happy about it, but they are out with the other roosters 'free-ranging' it in my horse...

    Renovating existing coop-ideas, thoughts appreciated!

I am looking to update/reno our chicken coop. After adding several more hens, (up to 11 now!), we need a bigger coop, and possibly larger 'yard' for them! I am working on a design for a 'detachable' covered yard on wheels that I can connect to the existing yard or hook to my 4wheeler and drag...

    New from SC

Hi all! We are from SC. Have had chickens all our lives, really just now getting into serious 'backyard chickens' for eggs and pets, not large scale farming for food consumption, and we are LOVING it. :) We currently have 11 hens, and about 10 free range (in our horse fields, not with our hens)...

5 Roosters in SC to be rehomed

Hi all! We are out of Sumter, SC and have about 5 free range roosters that I would love to rehome. They are all various breeds- some large (handsome!) Silkies included-. I've tried selling, but no one is interested, so looking to rehome. I will catch them and meet you to rehome. I am happy to...
