My Lucky is a cross between a Buff Orpington hen and black EE rooster. He looks nothing like either parent. He is the sweetest chicken though. Too bad he is a he because we can't keep him.
My broody hen hatched some eggs that I got from a friend. She said they were EE. They are beautiful and all have dark blue to a light blue hue to them. I'm fairly new to raising chickens and I've never seen this color. Love them!
Lucky (the white one) is 6 weeks. I know what the breed is (EE x Buff Orp) but I'd like opinions on gender. I'm thinking roo since the comb is starting to get red.
Hawk(the mottled brown one) is an unknown breed and gender. 9 weeks.
I have one chick hatching right now and it has a tiny hole pecked out of the shell. We can hear it peep through the shell, but it hasn't made any progress in over 6 hours.
Can I help it along? and if so how much can I do?
ohhh, too late for hand feeding and cuddling, but I will definitely take the advice given and then check and see what other threads I can find. Thank you.
Our one rooster is 18 weeks old and still is a friendly roo. He has some odd behavior though. When I call him or talk to him, he will walk sideways up to me and make all kinds of chicken noises. sometimes he will lift one wing a little higher than the other and he walks sideways to me. We...
My one Pekin duck that I was hoping would be female is looking more like a drake at 14 weeks. 'Norma" has a new curled tail feather. My question is can I introduce a female duck to Norma (have to change that to Norman, I guess) without problems? I also have 8 chickens, 7 hens and one rooster...
I am pretty sure these first ones are pullets. The white is an Americauna between 6-7 weeks. The Rhode Island Red (Cocoa) is the same age. Now last chick is a roo, I'm pretty sure, but maybe someone can confirm.
Cocoa is next.
Now this last one I'm thinking is a roo.
Thanks...
I have 2 Buff Orpintons that I need help with. Both are between 6-7 weeks. I am new at this!
The first 3 are of Nugget.
The next 3 are of Buffy.
Thanks! So far we have 2 out of 8 that are roos. Not happy! Hopefully not more.
I have 2 Golden Sex Links and since I am a newbie at this chicken thing, I am trying to determine gender. The first 3 are of Mayflower.
These next 3 are of Polly.
Thanks for your help.
Is it normal for 6 week old chicks to eat constantly? What is appropriate to feed them other than starter feed?
They do get to free range every day for a little bit. They do eat their starter feed, but aren't terribly interested in it.It is available all the time I have given them rice and...
My one duck seems to have taken on the role of the mama for my 8 chicks. They are all about 7 weeks old now. The chicks will follow the duck around everywhere she goes and will never be too far away from her. Whenever there is danger, they always crowd around her. it is so cute.
I think one...
