Hi everyone. My Fiance, our McNab Sheppard 'Fish', and me live in northern california, in the heart of the redwood coast on a 300+ acre ranch. getting ready to dispatch, just one question.....
Should i remove food 24 hours before I do it ? or does it not matter? -

ok, cool, i was scared. Yes, their needs are being met quite nicely...they have water in their pen, run. and when they graze they always find the dogs water. Shade they have too, but they prefer the sun it seems. I thought i had some weird birds! -

Do turkeys pant? YEsterday, i got home from work and it looked like one of my birds was panting a little bit...maybe i am crazy, it was a little warm here yesterday...they were in the sun. What do turkeys do when they get hot? Do they pant? I have to post a picture or two of them soon, maybe... -
Turkeys on the deck!!
get used to it...I have Turkeys on my BBQ, Picnic table, in my garden, and chasing me into my barn (Cattle Gates are not effective young turkey retention devices). Good Luck! -

OK, then the red heds, with the chin thing drooping down qualifies them as toms? just to recap what was said.... I will have to post a photo of mine now that they are getting older. the heads are really red, but only at times...or maybe it is the light. oh well. they taste the same or different? -

I think mine or 7 weeks, and i have no clue what in the heck they are. i dont think i really care either any more. doesnt matter in my case, they are dinner any way. -
Getting a turkey....
I built a 4x4 coop with approx 10 x 8ft run. they seem to like it...but they love it when i let them out to graze. I am afraid the 4x4 pen may be too small, thinking about an add on. I read somewhere they like 5 square feet...if that is the case them i am alright with 16 square feet. I am sure... -
Newbie switching feed---any advice???
i promise, next time i am going to try to get a heritage breed or a wild turkey. these are like mutants. i still have a long time to go before they are 'dispatched'. i really ahve to review my game plan. thanks for your help. -

My 2 BBW and 1BBB are just about 8 weeks old now, and my old USDA chart i found somewhere on line says @ 8 weeks i should switch to a 'growth' feed. The guy at my feed store says i should just keep feeding them starter till i switch to finisher. i was planning on going to an organic growth... -
