Hi everyone! :)
I recently got more chickens and have already encountered something I've never seen before. My Silkie hen had a very large beard and recently it turned to dreadlock/calcified clumps. I examined her and found a few mites, so I bathed her and checked again. After not finding...

:-)
I hope you like it! Let me know what you think! I just took Peanut into an elementary school and read the book to a ton of kids. In all, my chicken got petted by 250 kids and he was a saint the whole time :-)
Last year, I decided to bite the bullet and write a children's book about my pet silkie chicken. It took about 6 months and quite and investment on my part. But it was sooo much fun and I love knowing that Peanut (my chicken) is now in a book :-) I expected to publish this on amazon and make a...
Wow I'm so happy to hear that!! It's so exciting when other people enjoy it as much as I have :-)
I actually got some fantastic news today about it too... the local Barnes and Noble has asked me to come visit as a featured local author and they want to sell the book in the store too! I'm...
Haha, well if I could sell more copies it would be great! But, yeah, I'm having a ton of fun just doing it! It isn't something I ever thought I would get to do.
So I had something exciting happen today.. a local school approached me and asked if I would come promote my book there! They are even asking me to bring Peanut along!
Okay so I treated him for mites (still can't find any on him)
Heres the kicker though.. now he's going bald from broken features on his front in places that he cannot reach.. I should also mention that he is the only chicken so he isn't being attacked. I don't know what to do :(
I've checked him over constantly for mites but maybe I'm just not seeing them. I'll treat him anyway and see what happens. It has definitely been a super hot summer. I've done by best to always keep cold water out for him and get him wet when need be.
