For the last few months, my silkie has been scratching off the features on both sides of his neck. Recently it has gotten much worse. I've tried washing the area several times in case the skin was irritated but that did not help.

He did this minimally last summer but then quite when winter came around. Anyone have any ideas?? Here is a picture:

may have mites or may be too hot my silkie did that when it was in the 90's for a few weeks. if it is mites treat the coop and all the birds

I've checked him over constantly for mites but maybe I'm just not seeing them. I'll treat him anyway and see what happens. It has definitely been a super hot summer. I've done by best to always keep cold water out for him and get him wet when need be.

treat you whole flock and keep them on a dusting cycel i dust every three weeks in the summer and every 6 in the winter may also on the hotest part of the day give them frozen water bottles and wet them down under the wings

Okay so I treated him for mites (still can't find any on him)

Heres the kicker though.. now he's going bald from broken features on his front in places that he cannot reach.. I should also mention that he is the only chicken so he isn't being attacked. I don't know what to do :(

I would dose him with 1/4 cc of Ivomectrian ..either pour on or injectable type.....apply on bare skin under wing. He may have something burrowing under the skin..... Or internal

Yes, it is a due wormer for cattle and other large livestock..but used on poultry. You can get a small bottle of Ivomec injectable from most feed stores etc.. Apply about 1/4 cc to his bear skin under wing. It kills worms and mites.
