    Feed and smelly ducklings

Quote: Thank you curiousitycat!! It has unfortunately turned off cool here today, but maybe tomorrow afternoon we can venture out. Our yard is a wild array of mostly weeds- much to my DHs chagrin - the chickens free range with no ill effects so maybe we are safe. I cut up the spinach and...

    Feed and smelly ducklings

Wheweee - yep, I had forgotten how malodorous these babies can be. I'm gonna try the baking soda suggestion, iamcurousitycat. My WHs are 5 days old and I was wondering if I could offer a little cut up fresh spinach (or other) for some chlorophyll? I have some chick grit, so could I sprinkle...

My ducks got eaten last night..so upset!

Oh cndly, that's a shame and it's a worry we all share - so sad for you. Try not to think about it too much and focus on getting those eggs hatched! *hugs*

    And some more new additions!!

They're here!! Everybody's alert and chowing down! Looks like all 10 ordered made it fine and Metzers was kind enough to include 2 more for an even dozen - thanks folks!! After a few minutes under the light to warm up, I have never seen such an active bunch. What fun to watch!

    Preventing spraddle leg? retry

Ducklings should arrive tomorrow - yipee!! I'm going to do the towel thing to start in the brooder box to help prevent spraddle leg as suggested. When would it be safe to switch to newspaper - a few days or a week or ...? I'm using shavings in the kiddie pool brooder which I'll probably...

    Tupper checkin' out the brooder!

Well, I had this set up in the laundry last week, but most everybody knows what happened with the Metzer/Meyer shipment, so I transferred it to the basement where we'll move them after a day or so. I'm hoping my water set-up will help with the mess - guess we'll see. I'm gonna put them in a...

    re: Sad morning (update)

Just got a call from Metzer on my shipment. Turns out they were shipping for Meyer and my order fell to the same fate as the others on the truck. They are getting a lot of heated calls folks, so please don't flame them, too, this is a situation completely beyond their control. I didn't think...

    A sad morning...

Quote: That is kind of you Meyer, however, I did not place my order through your hatchery. Thank you for noticing and caring.

My ducklings from Meyer hatchery arrived dead

Oh Lynette, I am so feeling what you are right now. My duckings, too, all arrived dead this morning - my P.O. called and really hated to tell me. I am just crushed thinking of my 10 little peeps and I don't want to go get the box either, but have to to get he D&R so they can track the problem...

    A sad morning...

Got the call from our P.O. a little while ago and all my ducklings arrived dead. He was concerned when he didn't hear any sound and was going to give them some water if needed. How could this happen?! I didn't have a problem with my chicks a year ago and it was earlier in the year. Those poor...

    Quandry over 2 swell breeds....

I had to put off my Embden gosling order due to availability and since I've had more time to look and read, I'm now thinking about Buffs. From what I've read, they seem to have similar dispositions, but correct me here if that's not true. Embdens, according to the charts I've seen lay 35-45...

    Hand feediing question

I asked this in my last post, but I think it got buried in my other questions. I am wondering about the hand feeding thing. Some have said not to feed things out of your hand and others say they do. Is this just for geese or ducks, too, and what is the reasoning behind it? I really don't...

Getting prepped for arrival. Feed questions!

Thanks Duck lover! I keep hearing about niacin, why and how do you give it?
