    MAN...I'm getting old !!!!

I started with 20 lost one the first few days...I think she got smothered under a pig pile. The bigger brooder and the level waterer is making a big difference. The chicks don't have to crowd the feeder or water. I have one with a little poo sticking....tried to get it off. She seemed a little...

    MAN...I'm getting old !!!!

I said to the wife....."I have to go to Walmart and get a bigger bin for the chicks." Then I start surfing this board and find a few people using dog kennels...." HEY...that looks familiar." Accurite VS Mercury

I bought an ACU*RITE wired digital thermometer / humidity meter at Walmart tonite. It has a probe attached to the meter by a wire. I figured this would be Ideal because I can read the meter and reset the memory without having to remove anything from the incubator. It's been in for 3 hours now...

    CHICKEN POOP !!

I know chicken poop is supposed to be the BEST fertilizer but how long does it have to "cool off" before it can be used safely ? ?? Can anything be added to it to make it ready sooner ?? I had planned on using the droppings on this years sugar corn crop but don't want to mess anything up !!

I'm building a coop and have several dilemmas

I run a heavy gauge extension cord from the garage to my coop for the winter to provide white light for longer days to encourage laying and heat on the really cold nights. I know what you mean by snow...when the last of my birds were gone 2 years ago i decided to "park" the coop in the pasture...

How to keep Pen area from stinking!!!

I've found wet rotting feed can add to the smell. In the past when I've spread too many pellets for the size of my flock and there was uneaten food left to get wet and dissolve the smell was horrible. Having a covered pen and making sure any spread feed is eaten the same day will help a bunch.

What exactly is the defenition of a Pullet?

I was also told you can tell the age of a hen by the color of the legs. A pullet will have bright yellow legs while the older a hen gets the more pale the coloring. By the way...I had 4 older hens, probably 3 yrs+, that used to lay every other day or so. I introduced 6 new pullets to the coop...
