I have had the same problem...only now, I cleaned the coop out completely... down to the wood floor put new straw in and they won't lay AT ALL. I have 20 hens and NO EGGS. I have no idea why. It has been in the upper 80's... but their coop and run is in a partially shady area.
I did do that and she prolapsed again, but I did the same thing, treated her and such and she is back with the flock again. Doing GREAT! Thank you so much.
I just had a hen with a proloapse and everyone on this site was amazing with their support and help. I actually thought I'd have to put her down... but didn't have the heart to do it, and she recovered and is back with the flock. Here is what we did:
cleaned off area, put ky and prp h on it...
I had an injured chicken and she was in a dog kennel in a quiet place in this storage room we have. She was doing ok, quiet... not much activity until she saw us... she was lonely. Then unfortuantely... another hen had a prolapse and we thought she might die. We had her in yet a seperate...
Thank you from Vancouver, I will see what I can find out. I am so sorry for you too, it is so horrible. It just breaks your heart. I will keep you and your hen in my prayers and thoughts as well.
Well I tried the feed stores in WA & OR and you cannot get euthenasia stuff there, strict laws. We gave her a dropper of whiskey and aspirin thinkng the same, it would put her to "sleep". But it didn't work, she just stood there drank a bunch of water, threw up the water and then ate her food...
Thank you so much, I'm so sad. I know she is pain because I tried to clean her up in back, you know the feathers, and she made these really loud sqeaking/squealing sounds. I will try again to fix her and if not I think because she is in pain I'll have to figure out how to put her down. Can I...
Ok, this is so gross sounding I know... but I don't have any clue what to do. I have a beautiful blue araucana hen who is about 6 months old, she was on her roost high above the others looking swollen and big kind of, when I reached up and took her down her tail feathers are bloody and white...
I am feeding them Purina Layer crumble (just started about 3 weeks ago after taking them off of the medicated starter crumble.) And, they get oyster shell free choice, lots of fresh water all day, veggie scraps from the kitchen, and a little scratch tossed out into the run for fun in the...
Well the latest is that she is moving around a little better but the egg laying thing is so bizarre.
She lays a hard dense "shell" like material, then later in the day passes a "soft" celled egg in a long shape.
Still runny poo...
My girl is about 5 months old and this just started Wednesday night of last week.
I am going to try giving her some baby aspirin diluted in water and some vitamins and hope she pulls out of it I think.
Thank you so muchh for the for the well wishes.
The curled foot thing goes from one left foot to right foot. She cannot stand for very long, she kind of just slides down to rest on her hocks. She stretches her legs out and her toes when she is laying down, but really can't stand and run or walk on her feet.
I picked her back up tonight...
Ok, I had posted the other day and a few of you were so gracious and kind to respond.
Here is the link to that post: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=103019
I've taken photos of her today. Last night I held her for quite a while and gave her a little massage of the...
Thank you so much everyone. Her poo is back to normal tonight, but it is like she has club feet. I picked her up and when I rub her underbelly, back by her legs underneath, she moves both legs back in and curls her feet and squawks a bunch. It is weird.
I am just hopeful it will work...
It is only her right leg and her "toes" kind of curl and colapse under her on that foot only. I can pick her up and she can curl both sets of "toes" around my wrist. She has watery almost colorless diarreah with a little brown solid in it. (Sorry, graphic...)
What kind of electrolytes would...
