Sponsored Post Congratulations MamaNini! You won a beautiful coop from Handcrafted Coops!

The best advice I can offer is ALWAYS build your coop at least 3 times (not 2) bigger than you think is necessary!!! I started with 5 chicks and within 1 week MY HUSBAND, not me, snuck in 1 more...didn't even tell me. I now have exactly 3 times as many as I first started with 3 years ago and I...

Feathered Landings Est. February 2009 Here we go... We started with the chickens, bad idea on our part. Kind of like putting the cart BEFORE the horse. Had I known this in advance I would have 1st - Checked local and state laws on owning and housing chickens. We got very lucky and are not...

Why are my chickens getting sick and dying?

Sorry it took me so long to get back on here to update you guys. Wed. started out as a good day as our Millie was healthy enough to put back in with the other chickens but then as the day went on things got bad...Joe and our black australorp got VERY sick and we had to put them down, they were...

Why are my chickens getting sick and dying?

Thanks for the reminder....I do have a few packets of electrolytes for chickens, I was just so concerned about getting the antibiotics into them that I forgot all about the electrolytes. I'm really starting to think it is something respiratory related (probably chronic respiratory disease like...

Why are my chickens getting sick and dying?

Thank you clarescifi...I'm really sorry for your loss too. I completely understand how you feel as I too am very hesitant to ever go on vacation again. I know my neighbor would never do anything to harm my chickens (she has chickens too) but part of me feels guilty cause I know I would have...

Why are my chickens getting sick and dying?

Thank you for your sympathy, concern and support chickenscratchin. It didn't occur to me that a healthy chicken could still be a carrier but after reading all the different disease from the link you gave me it states that a lot. I always knew to be careful when introducing new chickens but...

Why are my chickens getting sick and dying?

Thank you for the link chickenscratchin....it's very helpful and I'm reading all the diff disease/sicknesses to help narrow it down. Good idea to weed out what it is NOT and go from there. @ hot2pot...I did add 1 millie fleur about 2+ months ago. My girlfriend went and picked up 1 for herself...

Why are my chickens getting sick and dying?

Thank you for your fast response I am going to the hay market tomorrow and will see if I can find that there, or get more ideas from them too. It has actually gotten really hot and dry here while I was gone and am worried they did not have enough clean water for how hot it was.

Why are my chickens getting sick and dying?

I have been gone on vacation for 8 days, my neighbor who was watching my chickens said 1 died. When I got home today I noticed they ALL seem sick and I found another hen dead and 1 almost dead (I don't think she's gonna make it throught the night) I am extremely upset and need to find out fast...

How long should I wait...Muscovy eggs in the bator?

Thanks for your replies, turns out they all did not make it I'm really upset over it as I had 7 to start and didn't even have 1 hatch. Seems like somethings went wrong late on...maybe a humidity issue I may try to get a hold of Bleenie if I try this again (thanks keeperoftheeart for that...

How long should I wait...Muscovy eggs in the bator?

Oh, I've always read 35 days for incubation, not 33. If that's the case then I'm really past I was hatching these for a friend, I didn't expect it to go so wrong, I've never had problems like this when hatching chickens eggs. I knew the were harder but didn't expect this.

How long should I wait...Muscovy eggs in the bator?

I'm wondering how long I should wait before I call this hatch a complete failure? Today is the start of day 38 and with only 4 eggs that went into lockdown, none have even pipped yet. I started with 7...1 was and early quitter and 2 were late quitters (right before lockdown) I've only ever...
