Hi All,
After 7 years of chicken parenting, I happened upon our first bloody poop this morning. It is definitely not a lining slough. It was a thick blood only poop. I think I need to treat with Corrid because someone probably has something, although everyone is active and healthy looking...
I *think* they are barred rocks. The store they came from received their chicks from Cackle that week and they didn't have any Sex-Links in the order. EEs, Brahmas, RIR and BRs. Anything is possible though. I suppose they could have used Sex-Links as packing peanuts, but that would have been...
Thanks everyone. I have been so suspicious of this chick since about day 3 that I need your impartial eyes. Thanks for the tip about the barred gene. Really good to know. I had been thinking that the darker coloring was indicative of females, but knowing that it takes two to lighten makes me...
I think I might have a gender confused chick on my hands. Colored like a girl, but endowed like a boy.
For a recap of round one:

And now for round two. In pictures with both Kiwi and Bean, Kiwi (the confused chick) is always...
On our way to the grocery store yesterday we found a chicken walking down the street. So we live in a good sized city. Kind of random, eh?
She is half the size of our EE and a third of the size of our Welsummers. She appears to be an adult bird, which is making me think that she is a Bantam...
Thank you everyone. I now have hope that she will just never be a runway model. Thanks for taking the time to peek at Kiwi's gender bending features.
Thanks again!
If only they came out with painted toenails or a propensity to leave the seat up to make it easier on me. I so obsess over these things. I think I need to let it go, or crow as the case may be. As if that will happen. Tomorrow's test will include chick's choice movie night. The Notebook or...
Thank you. She has to be a she. I mean what are the odds that I would have a he in every batch of sexed chicks? From three different sources?!? Here's hoping she is just a little hefty from the tail down.
I completely forgot about this board. Hi everyone. Sorry about the identical post over in the baby chick section.
So she's a little thick in the legs. I am sure they are just egg birthing hips. Right?
Kiwi (the bird with the thunder thighs) and Bean are the same age (< 3 weeks). And I...
Doh! That board probably would have made way more sense. I have my moments.
Thank you for peeking at lil' miss(ter) thunder thighs. He/She is a puzzler. And for the reminder about the other board.

Kiwi (the bird with the thunder thighs) and Bean are the same age (< 3 weeks). And I am sure the stance and comb are coincidental. Sigh.
Our girl to boy ratio for sexed chicks since the beginning...
My understanding is that Welsummers are not overly good mothers. We had a roo turn up in our Welsummer chicks last year and easily found a home for him because apparently the males actually tend to be the better mothers.
