    Are my dogs in danger?

Thanks, I'm walking outside to get my dogs right now!!! I am still concerned about the chicks but do not have any place to put them inside. Tiny hardware wire mesh, t-posts and chicken wire top won't keep predators out of the coop? Crap!!! I am right in the middle of moving house!

    Are my dogs in danger?

That's a question that is opposite of what is usually asked. It's my chicks first night outside (9 weeks old) and they are in a temporary coop because we are moving in two weeks. I've got four t-posts in a rectangle with tiny square hardware wire mesh around the perimeter, attached with zip...

HELP please! Too young to go out tonight?

Made it with t-posts, tiny square hardware wire mesh all around, chicken wire on top with zip ties every 4 inches, additional chicken wire around perimeter on ground with big rocks all around. Put my two dogs (only small Shih Tzus) in a kennel next to it to guard them through the night. I have...

HELP please! Too young to go out tonight?

My hens are 9 weeks old. I delayed building my coop because we are moving next week. However, I woke yesterday to a dead hen. I think they were too crowded. Long story short - I've made an emergency, temporary coop today but I'm wondering if they are too young to be outside all night. The...

Came home to a dead chicken :(

I haven't seen any signs of mites or pecking and she was fine when I left this morning. I'm heading to the hardware store tomorrow to buy supplies so I can throw together a temporary coop while I finish the permanent one. Maybe being outside and having more room will help ... Thanks!

Came home to a dead chicken :(

We came home tonight to find one of our Americauna chicks dead. They are 7 weeks old and I was just about to put them outside in their new coop. She was face down and all the other chickens were just walking all over her like she wasn't even there. Did I do it, not getting their coop finished...

You guys were correct! I found her walking near the brooder just now. Thank goodness and thanks to all of you for helping me feel better in the middle of the night. Whew!

Please help newbie with lost 4 week old chick ...

Lights out last night as normal and I went to bed hoping I'd wake up to find my missing chick miraculously back in the brooder. The lure of the light or food and water wasn't enough. It's after 10 am and she's still missing and silent.

Please help newbie with lost 4 week old chick ...

I have moved EVERYTHING, looked under furniture, behind the water heater (with a flashlight), etc and cannot find her anywhere. I'm worried but will just listen for her and hope she turns up soon. Thank you.

Please help newbie with lost 4 week old chick ...

Okay, I guess I'm an idiot for not having my brooder covered at this point but I cannot cry over spilt milk. We have lost a four week old chick, presumably inside the house. I have looked everywhere to no avail. I'm worried she will be stressed and too cold, as it is only 76 in my house. Do...

Help please! Just noticed I have the wrong feed.

I am such a newbie! I looked all over the bag and found zero info. Finally, I noticed a "hang tag" on the bottom of the bag (it was sitting on it.) It reads "Start-n-Grow Medicated, a complete starter feed for meat and egg type chicks." Duh! I'm sorry for the trouble, I'm on the learning curve.

Help please! Just noticed I have the wrong feed.

Thank you so much for your quick answers. I am on the east coast and I'm ready for bed. I'll fill the feeder, go to bed and run by the feed store Friday. Thanks again!

Help please! Just noticed I have the wrong feed.

Hi. I have 7 three week old chicks and I'm a newbie. I was feeding them medicated crumbles but just noticed (after cutting the bag open of course) that my latest purchase from the feed store has actually turned out to be regular chicken feed. I was holding crumbles when I asked the clerk...

Sorry if this is a sand repeat ...

Thanks Elmo! I appreciate your answer and really enjoyed your two pages showing your coops. They are great inspiration for newbies like me that are trying to plan and build coops.

Sorry if this is a sand repeat ...

I noticed someone posted a question about using sand in lieu of shavings for their DLM but I didn't see an answer, even after reading many pages. What is the consensus regarding using sand or possibly a mixture of 50/50 sand and shavings? Thanks in advance!
