Went out this am to find my 3 yr old Buff dead in her coop. No obvious injury, had been out in the yard worming and scratching the day before...no signs of illness. Moved 4 new chicks into the coop 2 weeks ago but other than that nothing different. Was supervised outside so deidn't get into...
Good to know others are having this issue. 3YO Austrolorp waddling with swollen bottom and eating and drinking. no egg I can feel, lubed up and put away to rest. But she does occasionally breathe heavily. Hasn't layed in 2 days. Lost one 7 months ago to same problem. Would love to know...
I have a sick buff for over 10 days, Swollen abdomen, lethargic, not laying. Have tried all remedies, antibiotics, olive oil, warm baths etc and need to put her out of her misery soon. I hate to do it as she is the most docile and tolerant with my kids but she seems miserable. I read...
My buff fas been sick for a week. No eggs, swollen backend with weird calcified-like white poop. Initially treated her like she was eggbound but have been now supporting like she is peritonitis but what is the poop? I mean the poop sure seams like old egg shells. Any ideas?
I have a buff orp who has been on the nest for a week. She won't eat or drink as of the last 3 days, hasn't layed in 6 days, has a swollen red back end and is constantly puckering her vent. I have given her warm water baths, put her on a hotpad, fed her extra calcium and oatmeal, lubed up her...
I am desperate!!! My 3 buffs and 1 black austro have not layed any eggs in 4 months. Plenty of water, Layena crumbles, kitchen treats and oyster shell. They free range a few times a week, have a light on a timer from3 to 11am. What am i missing? One of the buffs looks awful with missing...
My Buff Orpingtons must be molting but they have been losing feathers for a month (no eggs) and still aren't bare. How long does it take? I want my eggs back.
I need help. My 1 1/2 yr old buffs are not laying at all and have not for months. Nothing changed except construction behind us for last few months. Would that do it? I mean maybe 2 eggs in 2 months. Lots of feathers in coop as well and the girls have never molted. But, feathers and no eggs...
My 4 chickens, 3 Buffs and 1 Austrolorp have been horrible in the egg laying department all summer. They are about 18 months old, layed great all winter and spring then stopped. They have 24 hr access to food and water, free range a couple times per week and still lay only 1ish egg a day...
Has anyone ever had an egg that looks normal but when you touch it you realize the shell is totally soft? I am pretty sure it came fromone of my Buffs. I give them oyester shell, yogure treats and occasionally let them free range.
what is a good protein addition for chickens in molt? Eggs, yogurt... I have had to limit their free ranging because they have feasted on my growing hostas and until I change to more unappetizing plants they're what I've got.
