Hatching Shelless eggs, they did it! Can you?

Hi, poking around the Japanese net and stumbled across this science project, they have been working on it for a few years now and I have seen it in the news before but this is the first time with a really good video (IN ENGLISH) to go along with it so, enjoy! There are since journal articles as...

That is really interesting. I was thinking it was intestines/poo and normal. I suppose the long and short of it is that it's dead ^^;; It was a VERY active chick in the shell. Moving so much all the time.

It looked between day 14 and 21 size. On the small side for a hatch but not too small. It would not surprise me if the humidity was too high as it was left in ambient and it is HUMID here.

I can confirm it died sometime today as I candled it yesterday and it was kicking.

It was basically ambient and it is VERY humid at the moment.

No deformation besides the air embolism, I checked. The 'bator did fluctuate from 38-42*c every day though so it may have been too weak to hold its head in the aircell. Alternatively, the hair cell may have had a bit of water in it? Some albumen may have leaked in? I just don't know. The beak...

Well, my curiosity won. I assisted. No blood, all the vessels had retreated. I made a fairly big hole once it was obvious it had piped internally and poked it with the chisel I had used. No response. Manipulated the beak a bit, not a twich. So, I did what any curious person would do, I unshelled...

I would help it but I am not sure of the set date.... *shrug* Also, almost everyone says if you think you need to assist: Don't. So, I don't want to rush into assisting....

The chick was VERY active only yesterday. I can see a fully developed feather so I think it is about ready to hatch. There is a clear aircell spot that never detached until today. I was rotating the egg to see if the chick was alive and noticed bubbles. I thought it was the albumen or something...

The chick was VERY lively only yesterday. Maybe it smacked the membrane open?

Curiosity: Has anyone heard of an aircell detaching at lockdown which had been solid before?

So, I can see a really defined feather through the shell so I am guessing I am to lockdown. I was moving the egg and the aircell moved too! There were bubbles and all kinds of shite. Crap. Left it aircell up, hope it isn't dead. I was candling for a liveliness/did it pip yet check. Not sure if...

Do duck eggs have to be warm to grow

    No worries!

Cool. I honestly think the chick will die of failure to thrive as it will be the only chick *shrug*. Not sure how I will increase humidity, don't even know what it is. I haven't really figure the whole hatching part yet. Polyester batting is not conducive to hatching methinks. If I catch it...
