I am a novice as well but have been consistently getting at least two eggs a day from each of my khaki ladies and some days I get 2 from my Cayuga. They are just a year old this spring. All ladies seem healthy and happy so I assume that means we are doing well and getting great rewards for our work
Woke up this morning in a grumpy mood , went to collect eggs and got my first black egg!this is my cayugas first spring as an adult and we were getting very large white ones up until this point. I am so happy!
We keep ours on the counter as per the Australian method. They last up to a month but are not as good after a couple of weeks. Don't forget the easier you are on the egg when washing or wiping away the dirt will leave more "bloom" on the egg and it will last longer.
We have our ducks and chickens together and they seem fine. I will be honest we did have some drake on chicken action but nothing the ladies were not able to escape from. I have 9 kc's, 1 Cayuga and we had 6 hens down to 4 because of weezle and a rooster and we have never really had a problem
