Yeah, that is very possible. Like I said, that is just a rule of thumb, it varries a lot from hatchery to hatchery, they basically just name them whatever they want now. But I would believe that it is less common for it to be crosses with a sussex just because they are not as common as a white...
I am sorry I do not have experience with this breed...have you tried to google it. I just looked it up and got some things pop up. The other thing you could check is google under blogs and see what other people have said about them in there blogs.
They are fertile and it should work without a problem. Do not expect to get sex linked babies though, for more information on sexl links and breeding them, I would recomend you read http://backyardpoultry.wordpress.com/2009/04/16/sex-link-chickens-and-more/.
Amberlink is just another name like the red sex link...there are many different varieties. If you want more information on the different varieties of red sex links along with black sex link chickens, read http://backyardpoultry.wordpress.com/2009/04/16/sex-link-chickens-and-more/.
That has...
The Rhode Island White is not quite as widespread as the RIR so you might not get quite as good of a bird, but I have never bought them, so there may be some really good strains out there.
Yeah, I know...I just think it is funny that I have had that happen to me a number of times when it really according to the linking should not. But things do not necessarily always go the way they tend to go.
Kim_NC,
You seemed to know a lot about genetics, so is the green egg gene related...
Make sure you have enough room for all of them, because that can cause this problem.
Otherwise, we have never had a problem with older hens picking on the new pullets, but our flock is free range, so they have no reason with all that room.
It depends.
Do you have a bantam or a regular size chicken...
For bantams I usually put under around 8 eggs, for full size chickens 12-15. With those numbers I tend to have a good hatch, occasionally there will be a hen that is a bad mommy, but that is not neccessarily because of the...
If you want to help prevent getting the drabby colored brown/green eggs, it would help to cross with white egg layers such as white leg horns. The only possible problems here is if they where to lay too fast, potentially lowering the darkness of the blue egg. Unless of course the green egg...
I would keep him, the thing is he is an EE, just one that is barred now, at least that is what I understand from what you said.
The charecteristics of the aracauna/ameraucana are dominant. The pea comb, blue/green egg, green legs. That is why we have EE in the first place.
Another thing is...
The sex links do have an advantage and the reason why is you are reversing the inbreeding. It would be similar to buying many different strains of RIR and crossing them together, you would get healthier birds that lay better. Sometimes for showing, inbreeding is good because it might allow...
We never feed medicated feed and the chicks are fine, but they should be on a higher protien and lower calcuim ration until they are laying age.
The higher levels of calcium is said to cause tissue/organ dammage, and they need the protein to grow!
Sounds like you are doing good then!
Once they are big enough and as long as there is no snow on the ground the chickens/chicks go outside, they would much rather be there than stuck inside!
I actually have bantam polish and they are nice with pretty calm temerments. Their crests do cover their eyes, but they seem to get along well enough with the other chickens as well. I had heard that their temperments can be wacky too, but personally have not found that.
We have never had...
