Roo for Keeping?

I received my order of chicks last week and MM included 16 Red Star cockerels. I didn't know anything about them but after doing some research, it appears they are egg-laying machines. Does anyone have any experience with a Red Star male crossed to a heavy-breed hen (Australorp, Lt Brahma, S-L Wyandotte, B orpington)? Are these sex-linked males fertile? Thanks for the info...

I have a black star roo and red & black star hens, I have 6 of their eggs in the bator, due to hatch this weekend, don't know what I'll end up with!!! star/star mix.....
