Hello all! I want to get some chickens and am looking for a good coop that doesn't cost a lot but also isn't so cheap it will fall apart. I came across My Urban Farmer and they seem to have nice coops with longer runs than other cheaper kits. My hesitation is there is no reviews on the site so...
I know how you feel. I'm currently in the processes of moving from GA to NJ and NJ is not a chicken friendly state so I'm searching all the towns to see which few allow chickens. Unfornately it will probably be a few years before I can actually get my chickens but I'm doing all my research and...
Cool and thanks! I wanted to get a sussex but I want chickens for egg laying and read of all the colorations the speckled tend to go broody the most so was looking into the other colors. Now I just need to find one when I'm ready. Haha!
I was wondering if there are any other varieties of the Sussex breed other than the Speckled available in the United States. So far I have only been able to find Speckled Sussex chicks.
Oh goodness. I think I should look into some other breeds. They are good layers but some lay better so I think I'll kee looking. Might go with the sex-linked breeds I was orginally looking at so I know I will have all hens too. Thanks!
Hello all! I am starting to look into getting my first chickens that will be just for egg laying/pet purposes and really like the Wyandotte breed/type of chicken. I have read that they tend to go broody and I really don't want a breed that does this since I don't plan on hatching any of my own...
Okay. Right now I'm thinking all waiting till next spring before we get any. That way I'll have everything ready, have time to do lots of research and know more people around that I can trust to check in on them. Thanks for the info!
Well I'm new to the area so don't really have any close friends yet. I do have one friend but we are military and she is thinking about maybe going home when her husband is gone so I don't know if I could rely on just her. Where is a good place to look for auto waterers? I'd like to check them out.
My husband and I are thinking about getting 2-3 pullets for eggs but are worried about what to do if we were leaving the house for like a week. We are in GA and all our family is in NJ so we will probably be going up for some holidays. My question is what do you guys do when you have to leave or...
Thanks for all the help so far. We don't plan to expand more than 2-3 birds because one, we don't have a lot of room, two we don't have much need for a lot of eggs and three, want to be okay with leaving them alone if we left for a week. The guy at the feed store said they should be okay for a...
Hi! My husband and I are thinking about getting two chickens as egg layers. I did help raise two chickens that turned out to be roosters that my sister rescued from a friend around Easter time a few years ago but never had to deal with breeds or adult chickens. First, we think we want to get the...
