    Transitioning chicks outside

Both windows are open and covered with hardware cloth. The door to the run is just an opening, but covered with the cover to our week one brooder, which is a large rubber maid lid with hardware cloth on it. The run and coops are fairly predator proof at this point. Neither window is large, but I...

    Transitioning chicks outside

Gotcha. 4x4x4 coop for 7. Two small windows, but have a screened door I can use for coop entrance. Think I'll have to watch the temp tomorrow.

    Transitioning chicks outside

When moving chicks outside, do I need to keep them in coop for a few days at first or will they figure it out on their own? Should I let them in the run during the day and then close them in the coop @ night? Curious to hear how people have transitioned their chicks into coops/runs and how their...

    Necessity of a coop door

    Grit

At what age do you start giving grit? Is it once you start giving grass and treats? Is there much of a diff. between standard grit and chick grit? How much grit do I give my hens? Do I just sprinkle it out or provide a seperate feeder with grit? TIA!

    Pecking

Hi! First time bringing baby chicks home and have noticed one of them pecking the others. How much of this is ok? When should I be worried? What steps should be taken if it becomes a problem? Do you isolate the injured bird? The pecking bird? Both? Any guidance is appreciated. TIA!

Does multiple coops on a single run require nesting boxes in both coops?

Hi All! I'm building two coops on a single run. One coop is done and has 4 nesting boxes. I don't (currently) plan to buy a huge # of chickens, I've just had fun building so am building a second coop on the same run. The nesting box on the first made the construction a bit more intricate. My...
