Please advise on roofing -- shingle nails poking inside henhouse??

Thank you all! After looking things over with my dad we've decided to basically use furring strips, as Dr.Doorlock suggests. We'll add a few 1" x 2"s and nail the shingle strips into that. Should work fine, and not take up lots of room in the chicken house.

I'll post a pic when it's done!

I would strongly advise against trying to bend roofing nails over.
most likely you will only drive them out.and that in turn will cause your shingles to wear through where the nail head is.
roof ing nails are heavy guage and hard to bend. In tryig to bend them you will also loosen them in the wood where they are embedded, thus causing further damage..

I vote for adding more thickness at the nail rows as was mentioned by someone else..

I had this same problem come up on an addition that I built for a client. I just added thicker roofing to the whole roof.. of course he was not going to push his room around the ard with chickens in it..

I was a home building contractor for 35 years.

PS,. I don't think the chicken are in much danger from the nails in the first place..
