Hi Everyone,
Please excuse this post that is somewhat similar to other threads, but I haven’t exactly found the info I’m looking for. My ducklings are 6 weeks old and mostly feathered with small patches of down. They’ve been spending time outside during the day when it was above 50f (the last...
Hi Everyone,
Does anyone have weight/growth charts for their ducklings of various breeds? I did find one post to a google docs in a thread (which was great!) but the more data and more breeds the better. Also does anyone measure or track how much food their ducklings are eating daily?
Thanks!
Thanks! I had all these same concerns. I will treat topically, no vet wrap. I’ve also been keeping an eye on them today, and they’re not picking at her anymore. She’s eating, drinking, brooding with the others, and active. Thanks for all the input!
Yes, I was hoping it was just from close quarters during travel, and I have the same concerns about wrapping it. I’ve included a picture here. They are brooding in a bathtub with pine shavings, food, water, and an eco glow heater, which is low enough to be in contact with their backs
Hello everyone,
Four ducklings just arrived today in the mail. One has a very small patch of skin showing on the wing, and the others seem to be picking at it. It’s not bleeding but is irritated. I was thinking about wrapping it with vet wrap to protect it. Is that ok for a duckling so young...
Hey! Try positive reinforcement instead. That’s the way much of the training industry has gone. If you want to train them to accept handling, build your relationship first, with food and treats. Then give the best treats when they’re close to you or after you touch them.
I’ve just finished my duck house. The roof is on hinges so I can access it, and originally I was going to put a latch on it. But by the time it was done, the roof weighs about 50 pounds. Are raccoons strong enough to lift this? Or should I still put a latch on? Any other predators that might be...
Where do you buy your mealworms? You can get them online for a lot cheaper than the pet store. I use rainbow mealworms and get 2,000 (live) for $10. You can also get other bugs. Mealworms are also really easy to raise at home if you’re interested in that
This may be a dumb question, but—everything I can find says the ducks can move outside permanently when they’re fully feathered. Do these girls look fully feathered? There is still a little fuzz around their necks. Also, do they need to be acclimated to being outside at night? Lows here are in...
Hey! My little ducklings are growing fast, taking field trips outside and almost ready to permanently move out. My plan is to let them out to forage when they can be supervised, but that will just be weekends (maybe a little in the evenings during the summer). Because of this, they have a very...
