    Ascites?

Does this look like water belly? Should I try drain her? Her vent looks fine. Checked her for parasites and other issues, but I don't see any. She acts just fine and is otherwise healthy it seems. I've tried several things but now that this has been going on several weeks, I just want to help...

Should I help hatching? 24 hours

She made it! Yay! My guess was right or she was just that ready. I put her in the box and within 3 hours she was completely hatched! Now to figure out what to do with her/him. Intended to have them stay with momma but after the last five being killed worried about putting her back. Any suggestions?

Should I help hatching? 24 hours

I waited three more hours and nothing changed. I opened the hole and the membrane looks like paper. I feel like its dried out so in the picture it looks most because it has vaseline on it. The membrane instantly soaked it up. However, I hit a spot with a very slight amount of blood. I'm stopping...

I'm gonna let it go a couple more hours and check again. According to everything I've read it still has some time. It's...

Should I help hatching? 24 hours

This egg started hatching 24 hours ago. It has not progressed much at all since then. The chick is chirping and I can see it breathing through the hole. I had to move the hen because rooster or other hens are killing the chicks. We've already lost five hatchling. Bad experience so far. I've...

    Hurricane Irma

I am also in the path of the storm. I am wondering if during the actual storm if I should just leave the coop open or lock them in. We are surrounded completely by pine trees and I am more worried about a tree falling on the coop and them being trapped. I have too many chickens to bring in and...

    Feathered Egg???

I have a buff orpington seems to be lining the nest with her own feathers so that when the egg comes out they are sticking to the outside intentionally. She is the only one doing it. It is not an excessive amount, but it seems a little odd. It has happened about 6 times now. I always know...

    First Egg!!

Just found my first egg! It was much earlier than I was expecting. They weren't acting any differently. Should I change their diet now?? They are just getting extra veggies and fruits with their grower/finisher. They get out of the coop for about 4 hours per day when I get home from work. Is the...

    homemade water and feed containers...

I finally put together my own water container and feed container. :D I copied a few ideas online, but changed them slightly. I put both together for a total of $18. When I priced the containers separately they were going to cost $20-30 each. More satisfied with the fact that I made them myself...

I think I have two roosters...

Thanks! :) It's kind of funny. I was bummed when I thought I had gotten too many cockerels, and now I'm kind of sad that I don't have at least one!

I think I have two roosters...

Okay, so after reading a ton of posts on BYC...I may not know until they lay an egg or they don't, lol. I finally have some pictures. It was difficult to take the pictures one handed on my cell phone, so they are not that clear. No one told me chickens were harder to photograph than trying to...

I think I have two roosters...

They have the same combs/Wattles but the feathers are different. They have longer wing feathers and tail feathers that stand straight up sometimes. Maybe it's just an age difference. I will try to get pictures tomorrow if it's not storming like it did today. I wanted to post a video but can't...
